Alexander Wang Makes His Debut After a Three Year Hiatus
Since 2005, Alexander Wang has created a brand that everyone drools to get their hands on. He aimed to deliver: “Clothes that girls want to wear.” This mission attracted the house of Balenciaga and granted him the opportunity to be their creative director from 2012 to 2015.
It wasn’t until 2019 when the club-hopping designer was accused of numerous sexual assaults that turned into a 3 year hiatus in the fashion world. Eleven individuals reported non consensual encounters with Wang. Wang initially denied the claims, however, he later realized the trouble he had caused.
Lisa Bloom, the lawyer who represented the victims, spoke their truth, and following that, Wang delivered a sincere apology empathizing with their pain.
In formal statements Wang mentions, “While we disagree on some of the details of these personal interactions, I will set a better example and use my visibility and influence to encourage others to recognize harmful behaviors.”
Bloom’s clients acknowledged the statement and chose to move forward. Wang has avoided the spotlight since then until his show “Fortune City” in LA Chinatown on April 19. The show featured a runway show, party, and night market.
The event was a "multi-layered event and runway show celebrating Asian American culture, food and music.” It was open to the public and also invited guests.
Not everyone is ready to forgive Wang, however, his brand remains popular to many celebrities and retailers. He plans on expanding his brand into China and moving forward.
