Best Golden Globes 2023 Red Carpet Looks?

The 80th Golden Globes Awards were celebrated last night. A night that recognized the best of film dictated by apparently a much more diverse group of people. You might know, or not, that these awards like many others have faced criticism over their lack of diversity and inclusion and if you want to learn more about that check our previous Golden Globes article. Here we are going to keep things fashion and couture.

The first major red carpet of the year and one that at a distant glance seemed to be promising with spectacular looks. but as you looked closer maybe not all of them made the cut.

Needless to say this is just my opinion and I’ve seen that many people have loved some of the night’s looks. One of the internet’s favorites is Jenna Ortega, she wore a pinkish beige, which is this season's color, Gucci ss23 ethereal gown.

I have to say that after Wednesday’s popularity and Jenna’s take on gothic fashion set her up to be a major fashion girl to watch. This look and styling to me was smart as it’s something we’ve never seen her wear before, separating her from Wednesday and embodying her true self and style.

The gown itself, for me, felt like it washed her off and the “dirty” finish at the seems seemed to be coming off at the shoulders. What I really loved was her makeup and auburn bob!

Balmain just released their latest pre-fall 2023 collection and Michaela Jaé Rodriguez wore one of the looks. A heavily 80’s inspired structured, bow-like, opened midi blue satin dress. The dresses structure and tailoring is incredible, not a fan of the electric blue tone. They should’ve styled her in the big chunky jewelry the model wore.

Emma D’arcy, from House of the Dragon, made non-binary fashion look editorial with matching electric blue gloves by Paula Rowan, blue hair and a blue tear dripping down their cheek. Head-to-toe in my favorite designer, Acne Studios, a black oversized blazer with dramatic lapels and this season's hottest accessory; a flower. When everything looked almost perfect I saw the studded Paris Texas boots.

“I’m wearing a skirt and trousers, because nothing says ‘non-binary’ like wearing trousers and a skirt simultaneously.” D’arcy told Vogue.

There was a notorious lack of neck jewelry but we could see clearly Emma’s huge diamond ring.

Then we have the please-free-them-from-their-contracts girls Ana de Armas and Margot Robbie. Both have so much potential and literally could choose anything they want to wear but they keep giving us the most ugly fits. Margot, who is always styled in custom Chanel, should’ve worn something reminiscent of her film Babylon. Instead the baby pink gown washed her off and it just doesn’t do anything for her, but I mean it’s Chanel we can’t really expect anything.

De Armas wore a custom Louis Vuitton, a stiff strapless, cinched to the waist black embroidered gown with a structural pleated skirt. It’s not the worst Louis Vuitton look she has worn as it photographs nicely but from different angles it looks like she has a wall plastered on to her.

Another let down of the night was Anja Taylor - Joy and this one really hurts as we had seen her in such amazing, avant-garde looks she and Law Roach put together, this Golden Globes look was a disappointment.

The Menu star wore a bright yellow two-piece Dior gown compromised by a high waisted wrap skirt and matching bandeau. Accessorized with chunky gold jewelry and her long icy blond hair.

Maybe the accessories plus the loose hair were too much and a sleeker hairdo would’ve made this look better. Again, I don't understand how brands choose this kind of look when I know they know they have better ones. Looks that really show the fashions house strengths and design proposals.

I fell in love with some of Prada’s ss23 looks and wanted to love Letitia Wright in the orange ombré dress but I feel like it looked wrinkled and a little ill-fitting at the shoulders.

Then there were some frills and ruffles with Michelle Williams and Julia Garner in Gucci.

Not everything was bad as Tyler James Williams' take on the classic suit was surprisingly good as well as some of the other mens looks. Williams wore a tie-dye, slouchy Amiri ss23 suit with a white button underneath.
