Fashion Week 2023 Men’s Street Style

Men's Fashion Week 2023 was celebrated amid the European summer where designers presented more visibly fluid collections and show goers definitely dressed to impress.

Fashion shows seem to have come back to their normal pre-covid spectacular montage. We saw Celine’s runway comeback, Thom Browne didn’t fail to blur the lines between traditional femininity and masculinity and Loewe’s commentary on how humans abuse nature made this Men's Fashion Week one to remember.

When looking for the next season's trends one has to look at the streets, that is where the real fashion show is taking place. Fashion enthusiasts caught everyone’s eyes as vibrant colors, bold patterns, total denim, crop tops, light layerings and bareness seemed to be the attire of choice.

At this point it is clear that understanding men's fashion as being masculine is no longer the norm. Exploring and reimagining the male silhouette through fluid design is what is all about. Still, basic masculine staples are being used just paired with a more “femme” piece of clothing or accessory. Allowing men to show off and play with more versatile, fun, interesting and lively looks.

Experimentation with loud prints, cargo trousers, bare midriffs, see through, bright knits and color were by far the biggest trends spotted.

Men’s style proved to be stronger, bolder and more fluid. Apart from airy knitwear, head-to-toe denim, tank tops, full-on colors, eye-catching prints and layering, some accessories that can’t be missing from your wardrobe right now are a tailored vest, the very trendy Y2K-inspired trucker hat, a lively bright-colored shirt, a cross-body bag and your own skin. Remember that this summer is all about showing off a little.

Men's Fashion Week unveiled during Pride month, a perfect coincidence as fashion goes hand-in-hand with how someone chooses to express oneself. Right now we are witnessing how some countries are allowing conversion therapy and the devastating repeal of Roe v Wade in the USA which will have devastating consequences for women and the LGTBQIA+ community. Pride brings people together to celebrate, reflect and continue to protest for freedom, respect and recognition. Historically clothes are an expression of sexuality codes and are a language around gender norm stereotyping.

The evolution of gender nonconformity in fashion is reflected in this week's street style looks.
