Fringe is Making A Comeback
Fringe is back and better than ever. But, not the fringe you are thinking of.
The Attico is a brand that was established in 2016. The brand became a success almost overnight. A lot of their fashions bring past trends into a new, modernized, fun aesthetic. One of course being, the fringe. Fringes are draped in metallic, multi-colored strings hanging down giving it a more informal, deconstructed look.
Rihanna completely takes the stage with this look by The Attico at her Fenty Beauty event on Feb. 11 in LA. The metallic wet-looking fringes drape down her body. This is not the fringe from the Roaring Twenties. This is a cool girl look.
Giorgia Tordini and Gilda Ambrosio are the co-founders of their Milan-based label, The Attico. The label is known for its elaborate aesthetic with the use of feathers and sequins. Before they launched, the two friends had different styles but a common vision. Tordini is into the minimal, timeless pieces, while Ambrosio admires the eclectic, extraordinary looks. However, they both share an indefinite love for Cher’s aesthetic, which pulls together their visions.
The Attico has been expanding their repertoire from athleisure wear to swimwear. It is adding more versatile pieces to their collection. With the likes of Hailey Bieber and Rihanna, the street style queens, I think we can say that the fringe is safe to stay.
Bottega Veneta has recently been experimenting with fringe in their most recent collection at Milan Fashion Week 2022. The fringes aligned the bottom of the long leather dress in the Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear collection. Its vibrant colors contrast with the entire dress providing an eclectic feel to the overall look.
In 1966, Bottega Veneta was founded. The company has grown from a family business to a global company grabbing attention from all ends of the earth. Thanks to Michele Taddei and Renzo Zengiaro, we wouldn’t have Bottega Veneta today if it wasn’t for them. Taddei handed the company over to his ex-wife Laura Braggion when Zengiaro left the company in the late 1970’s. The rest is history, which brings us to today with the many leather, vibrant, netted, fringe looks that the label continuously feeds to us.
The Attico and Bottega are not the only brands bringing fringe into their collections… Ludovic de Saint Sernin has been incorporating a lot of shredded fringe looks into his Spring 2022 collection. The shredded lace-up jeans have been seen on Kim Kardashian’s Instagram as well.
The French designer, Ludovic de Saint Sernin never felt like he fit in. Growing up in Brussels and being forced to relocate to France during the civil war took a toll on his development. Fast forward to today, Ludovic created his own brand in 2017 after working for Balmain for two years. The brand is genderless and is available to anyone that desires to wear his designs.
Another brand that gained popularity rather quickly is Thrift + Threads. They have been incorporating fringe into their pieces as well. From jeans, to mini skirts, to mini cowl neck tops, the fringe is seen on mostly all of their items.
Thrift + Threads uses natural dyes derived from plants and minerals with no harmful chemicals. Each piece is hand-braided one by one to perfection. All of their work is handmade and sourced in Latin America and then transported to Miami for consumers to purchase.
Cult Gaia’s Renata Dress embodies the drape fringe trend. The beautiful bubblegum pink halter gown has fringe draped in an upward shape to align the body. Solid side paneling further accentuates the body and adds to the movement of the dress. The back of the dress has an open v-cut joined at the top by a buttoned strap.
Azalea Wang puts a playful twist on fringe with their draping diamante fringes along the back of a jean jacket. It vamps the simplicity of a jean jacket up into a statement piece that can probably shine from a mile away. The Azalea Wang Dolly Fringe Jean Jacket is a show stopper.
For the most flapper girl-esque dress on the market, Bronx and Banco’s collaboration with Revolve on the Barbie Neon Dress does the trick. The strappy, v-neckline mini dress has fringes dripping down into another v-shape accentuating the legs.
Lamarque’s Illona Dress has another take on fringe with the grunge feel of leather. This look is completely badass and chic at the same time. Worn with knee-high black boots and accessorized with gold jewelry, you are one to set trends on the street immediately.
Fringes may not sound like the hottest style right now, but they certainly can look the hottest as per these few styles shown. The Attico, Bottega Veneta, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Thrift + Threads, Cult Gaia, Azalea Wang, Bronx and Banco, and Lamarque are making fringes return to the scene in the most unforeseen way.
