Groninger Museum to Showcase Retrospective Exhibition on Gianni Versace

The Groninger Museum in the Netherlands will be showcasing a retrospective on late designer Gianni Versace from December 2, 2022, to May 7, 2023. The exhibition is called, Gianni Versace Retrospective.

The exhibition will honor Versace and his pioneering designs in men’s and women’s fashion, along with his drawings, accessories, and footage from their iconic runways between 1989 and 1997. Groninger Museum describes the showcase as being a “colorful, daring, emotional exhibition”.

The museum will showcase original pieces from international private collections. One of the pieces that will be shown is the infamous safety pin gown that Elizabeth Hurley wore in 1994 that rose her to overnight stardom.

A section of the retrospective will focus on how Versace turned unknown models into superstars such as Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford. The section will also include various advertising campaigns with skilled and accomplished photographers such as Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh and Bruce Weber.

The exhibition, curated by Versace experts Karl von der Ahé and Saskia Lubnow, shows that Gianni Versace’s legacy will continue to live on, even after his tragic death 25 years ago.
