Gucci Opens a New and Very Exclusive Salon Store in Los Angeles

Gucci just opened the doors of its new, very exclusive couture salon. Only the top-tier, pre-selected clients have access to it and even they have to make appointments. No drop-ins are allowed. The 4,380-square-foot store is placed in the perfect place on Melrose in Los Angeles, the corner of Melrose Place and Melrose Avenue.

While this new salon store is owned by Gucci, it used to be a Marc Jacobs store that originally opened in 2005.

When driving down Melrose, the salon store will be pretty hard to miss since there is a huge Gucci billboard right above the store. The billboard sits on top of the ivy-covered building and just like the outside, the inside is designed to perfection.

The idea of the salon store is to showcase Gucci’s Italian craftsmanship and art. Along with many garments, including some made-to-order collections, there are vintage pieces that Gucci has restored and put up for viewing. However, all of this is only visible to the employees and the customers inside. The store uses windows that are one-way so that the clients are able to see outside but the pedestrians on the street are unable to look in.

Since the clients for this new development is very exclusive, the prices are very steep. The price range for the pieces in the store can vary anywhere from $43,000 to $3 million. These prices are understandable when looking at what they are creating for the client; craftsmanship and exclusivity.

The inspiration behind the entire store is the old Hollywood film sets. They hope to bring the clients back to the 1970s with the designs inside and outside. Gideon Ponte, Gucci’s campaign set designer, said “My team and I pulled a lot of research. We looked at Gucci stores, from the first to today. There’s a clip online of the exterior of the Galleria in the ’70s.”

Craftsmanship and art are the focus of the store and it is made visible by the pieces displayed. Some of them include Dakota Johnson’s jeweled sheer dress that she wore to the 2021 Venice Film Festival. In addition, there is the gorgeous silver and black gown that Jessica Chastain wore to the 2023 Oscars.

Now that this Gucci salon store has opened, there are possible openings for salon stores in Milan, New York, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Shanghai, Taipei, and Tokyo. That is a lot of salon stores and I can’t wait to see what they do.
