In Her Eras Era: Taylor Swift’s Looks From ‘The Eras Tour’ Opening Weekend

There is only one person who could have an entire suburban city renamed in their honor for the weekend in which they are performing there: Taylor Swift. Last Friday night, the pop superstar kicked off The Eras Tour in Swift City, Arizona (more commonly known by its regular name, Glendale).

Swift broke all sorts of records with this tour, both with ticket sales and consequently attendance. She beat Madonna's record for most attendees at a concert, with 69,000 people at State Farm Stadium on Friday. Her 3 hour performance, composed of 44 songs from her 10 studio albums, was a feast for the eyes as well as the ears. The night was a sensational roller coaster of stylish outfits from each era, including custom looks from labels like Versace, Roberto Cavalli, Alberta Ferreti, and Oscar de la Renta.

On nights one and two, she wore two different versions of a custom bedazzled Versace bodysuit for her opening number from the Lover album. The soft pinks, blues, and purples matched the color palette of the album. Also from this era was a sparkly silver blazer in which she performed The Man. These looks were paired with red bottom Louboutins, of course.

For her songs from Fearless, Swift wore two different gold fringed mini dresses from Roberto Cavalli. The champagne tinted flapper inspired dresses glittered as she spun and shimmied up and down the stage.

For her folk-inspired albums Folklore and Evermore, the singer opted for full length prairie style dresses in marigold yellow, soft purple, and ecru. These dresses were full of ruffles and flowing skirts, courtesy of designer Alberta Ferreti.

Her Reputation bodysuit was a black asymmetrical Roberto Cavalli look, complete with jewel encrusted snakes winding their way up her bodice. The dark look was perfect for the edgy, rebellious energy that is integral to this album.

Taylor’s most dramatic look each night was a full skirt princess gown in which she performed songs from her third studio album, Speak Now. She wore two different gowns, one for each night, both designed by Nicole + Felicia, both pink, both glittery, both perfectly suited for a pop princess.

While performing songs from Red, Swift leaned into the quirky hipster aesthetic that she embraced when the album was first released in 2012. She wore an iconic red and black bodysuit, as well as a look recreated from her music video for the song 22, wearing a T-shirt bearing the phrase “a lot going on at the moment” (on night 2 it said “who’s Taylor Swift anyway? ew.”) and a black fedora.

Taylor’s custom Roberto Cavalli two piece, worn for her set from 1989, was stunning and intricately beaded. She wore the same set both nights, one in magenta and one in green, and the latter might be my favorite look from the whole show.

While she only performed one song from her debut self-titled album, she still underwent a costume change, recreating a look she wore while on her first tour.

Finally, there are the looks from the Midnights era. This being her most recent album, Taylor went all out with costume changes, a faux-fur Oscar de la Renta coat, and lots and lots of sequins. She wore several bodysuits, though perhaps the most notable was an all black bejeweled number that she wore while performing a cabaret-esque rendition of Vigilante Shit and, appropriately, Bejeweled. As always, her looks were paired with custom red bottom Loubotins.
