Jared Leto to Star and Produce Late Karl Lagerfeld Biopic

During the first week of October, Jared Leto exclusively told Women’s Wear Daily that he will star and produce a new biopic on the late Karl Lagerfeld and his legacy in the fashion industry. The biopic will focus on Lagerfeld’s personal life and relationships. “Karl had a career that spanned 50-plus years so both personally and professionally he was close to a number of people. I can say we are going to home in on key relationships that convey different parts of his life,” stated Leto to WWD.

Karl Lagerfeld was a German fashion designer, creative director, artist, and photographer. Lagerfeld is recognized by his white hair, dark sunglasses, and high-collared shirts. He is best known for his 36-year contribution as creative director in Chanel where he reinvented and brought life to the popular brand. He also worked for the Italian fashion house, Fendi, as a creative director where he produced more than 100 collections over a 54-year period. The late designer passed away in 2019, but his legacy still lives on with his affordable luxury fashion brand, Karl Lagerfeld.

“Karl has always been an inspiration to me,” Leto stated. “When we came together with the Karl Lagerfeld team, we immediately shared a creative vision of doing a respectful ode to Karl while pushing the artistic boundaries of what a biopic can be,” stated Leto.

The biopic will bring to light Lagerfeld’s legacy as, “one of the most fascinating and celebrated creatives of this century”. The film will recognize Lagerfeld’s six-decade long career along with his creative process and lasting impact in the fashion world.

The biopic’s plot, the name of the director, and the names of the actors who will be co-starring along with Leto have not been revealed yet. But, with the endorsement of the Lagerfeld fashion house, we are certain that the film will be done tastefully and will respect Lagerfeld’s legacy while still addressing the controversies throughout his career.
