Jeremy Scott Has Officially Left Moschino, But What’s His Next Move?

Jeremy Scott is one that will always be remembered at Moschino. He relieved Franco Moschino’s sense of humor through his designs, mastering the art of consumerist culture.

I think we all recall when Katy Perry was dressed in a chandelier for the Met Gala and as a hamburger for the after-party back in 2019.

In 1997 Scott created his own label, Jeremy Scott, which is what originally put him on the map. He definitely got attention with his show inspired by car crashes and shoes bandaged to the model's feet. With his intense start and ability to use different situations, happy or sad, as an inspiration, everyone talked about him and realized that he could do what many people can’t; make irony fashionable and luxurious.

The entire fashion world is sad about Scott’s decision to leave Moschino, but he said he is very proud of the work he did there and had the best time designing and creating so many unique collections. His first collection at the company was his Fall/Winter 2014 collection which was an ode to consumer culture in quite a literal manner. Utilizing popular iconic symbols and characters, including McDonalds and Sponge Bob.

If there was one thing, other than designing, that Scott knew, it was humor. Fashion was not just an art but an expression of letting life be light and having fun. His looks are always so visual and eye-catching that the audience can do nothing but watch and either laugh or smile.

He was also very ahead of trends as he was designing collections based on Barbie well before Barbie-core became popular. For his Spring/Summer 2015 show, he had models dressed as different types of Moschino Barbies. There were holiday, sporty, and party “Barbie” models during the show with the classic Barbie look also thrown in. The label released a Moschino Barbie not long after this to continue the gimmick and keep up with the fun light-hearted humor that Scott thoroughly enjoys.

Karl Lagerfeld and Scott formed a connection as friends and mentor/mentee during their tenure time at their respected fashion houses. And since this year’s Met Gala will be a tribute to Lagerfeld, there is a lot of speculation if he will bring his designs to the red carpet for it to remember his good friend and mentor.

Lagerfeld also stated that Jeremy Scott is the only person who can take over Chanel after his passing. This is a huge honor and is keeping me on the edge of my seat to see if Scott will move to Chanel, with Lagerfeld’s clear permission.

Scott leaving Moschino is the end of an era, especially for the fashion label itself. But, this is not Scott’s retirement and he will for sure be staying in the fashion industry. The only question now is, what is he going to do?
