Next stop: Paris. Fashion is everywhere this past month, walking the runways like there is no tomorrow. Some of the hottest shows have already happened and some we anticipate to see. Read below to hear the deets of what is happening in Paris!

The first show after Virgil Abloh’s death in November 2021 was the perfect kick off to an iconic week of fashion. On Feb. 28, the final designs for both men and women were presented to a large audience in a room with crystal chandeliers. It was also a retrospective to honor Abloh’s past designs. The looks consisted of micro mini skirts with exposed thong straps, sequins, baggy streetwear sets paired with fur coats, leather, mesh, puffers, tulle, cutouts, mohair, cargos, jacquard and graffiti print, tie dye- you get it. Absolutely everything that is in trend in the most unique, elaborate fashion was shown on the runway. The models walked down the runway with cultural props like a soda can or a cell phone to add even more coolness to the subject. Kendall Jenner as shown above is holding a soda can while wearing a mini sequin black dress with Abloh’s infamous quotation sayings on his clothing paired with matching gloves, knee high sequin black boots, and a hat with sheer tulle covering the face. The company is still deciding on their creative decisions with the brand, but this show touched all of our hearts with Abloh’s extraordinary vision and contagious positivity that we will all remember.

The sleek monochrome brown and black looks came down the runway one after the next and we were not complaining about the repetition of colors. Each look had its own personality from tux coats, to silk dresses, and faux fur coats. The elegant sexiness shied away from what most of the other collections are showing with micro everything, and instead focused on longer, narrow lengths.  YSL showed their collection on Mar. 1 at 8 pm.

Courrèges

On Mar. 2 at 10 am Courrèges presented their new collection on the catwalk. Nicolas di Felice was inspired by a 1973 brand video in a car junkyard for this collection. He grabbed attention with minimal, yet sexy looks while also bringing back some mini length looks. In this particular look, the model is wearing a cream-colored latex long dress with a slit down the leg. Silver chrome high knee boots fill the space between the slit and the rest of the look to add more depth.

Vetements

If you saw Rihanna’s pregnancy shoot with ASAP Rocky, the jeans she was wearing were Vetements. On Mar. 4 at 8 pm Vetements will formally be a part of the runway shows. In the past, their shows were very avant-garde, and informal as one was shown at a McDonalds in Paris for their Spring/Summer 2020 collection. With baggy streetwear and the use of masks, Vetements goal is to promote post-pandemic comfortability, and address cultural change with Bitcoin and social media millionaires.

Balenciaga

On Mar. 6 at 11:30 am Balenciaga will be showing off their new mid-to-late 90’s inspired grunge collection. With minimalistic, deconstructed designs, it provides an unfiltered touch to fashion. The pre-fall looks give us an idea of what we can expect to see on the runway this season with the all-black and all-white looks with a touch of patterns here and there.
