Pictures for Purpose is Raising Money for Disaster Relief in Syria and Turkey
Disaster struck on February 6, 2023, in Turkey and Syria. An earthquake that stretched from Northern Syria to Southern Turkey killing around 45,000 citizens. It harmed many and left hundreds of thousands of people homeless and without the basic needs.
Pictures for Purpose is a foundation that raises money by selling prints from different artists to help disasters that have struck around the world. In the past, they have raised money for COVID-19 effects, the climate crisis, and the victims of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. In total from all of their fundraisers, they have accumulated about €500,000 in donations for the different catastrophes.
For the fourth edition of Pictures for Purpose they are raising money and spreading awareness for earthquake survivors and victims. The two foundations that the money will go to are, Ahbap, an aid run by volunteers in Turkey, and, White Helmets, a humanitarian organization in Syria.
Ahbap is an organization that helps with animal rights, disaster assistance, social aid, and other kinds of humanitarian help. Currently, they have 68 groups that are placed around Turkey to help those in need. As of now, there are people on site of the earthquake’s location providing tents, food, clothing, and generators.
The second group is White Helmets, who provide aid with medical emergencies, search and rescue, evacuations, and delivery of basic and essential needs. Since the earthquake struck, they have heavily used their search and rescue team to find around 3,000 people. Their next step after finding these citizens is to get the recovered and arrange rehabilitation for them.
Pictures for Purpose’s fundraiser runs from March 16-30, 2023, and over 35 artists have decided to donate their prints to be a part of the program. The artists that participate in this can receive 25% of the profits made, but most of them chose to donate all of the profits made to disaster relief.
For this edition of Pictures for Purpose, there is now an option to purchase a larger print aside from the original ones that are 20 x 30 cm. The prints that are being sold have a wide range of themes, from human emotions to nature and still life.
