Rick Owens Men’s Runway Show Was Filled With Dark and Eerie Surprises
It is not enough to say that the Rick Owens Men’s Fashion Week show was enthralling, mysterious, and impressive. There were so many parts to this show that made it one of the best from Men’s Fashion Week. Between the small details in the show, the celebrity appearances, and the clothes themselves, this was the show of the season.
Teyana Taylor is one big fan of Rick Owens and her dedication and love for the brand really showed with this latest runway show. Her day started by waking up 30 minutes before the show and this really got her on edge. Nevertheless, she made it to the show and later on she commented,
“He’s one of the main reason I’m even here. I was like, ‘I gotta come’. Everybody who knows me knows how much I love Rick. I’m like a Day One loyal.”
We also got to see Victoria Beckham, Usher, Offset, and Tommy Cash who dressed and acting like a mime. The crowd was actually sprayed in a little bit of ash as the fireworks during the show lit up and graced the sky with their beautiful explosion about every 8 seconds. The ash from the fireworks rained down on the crowd and gave an eerie feeling adding to the show.
The garments that came down the runway gave a very luxurious gothic feeling. They were filled with dark colors, straight lines, and very noticeable silhouettes. However, when the models were walking down the runway, they came at a little bit of a slower pace. It was once about every 8 seconds, the next models would walk the runway.
The materials used in the garments were also giving off the effects that Owens was hoping to give. There was a wide range of fabrics but they all still give off a similar mood that matches the rest of the show. The flowy and looser fabrics hung low to create a ghostlike eerie visual while the stiffer and more structured fabrics gave sternness and intensity.
The morning of the show mother nature was not on Owens’ side, but it could’ve been a blessing in disguise. He said that he hoped that it kept raining throughout the show to add to the effect of the clothes, background, and added effects. “This morning when it was raining I was almost hoping it kept raining during that show. That no one would turn up. Then we’d have that same vibe, that emptiness, which is what I loved about those shows. It was like ‘even under these circumstances, we’re going to forge ahead and run it even if nobody shows up. We’re still gonna do this. Because we’re unstoppable.”
