Robotic Dogs Take the Stage During Coperni’s New Show
We all know about Coperni’s last show for their Spring/Summer 2023 collection. It broke the internet and will be known as one of history's most iconic runway shows.
Last year they sprayed a dress onto Bella Hadid’s body in the middle of the runway, utilizing a technology developed by Fabrican. After the iconic moment the stakes are high for Coperni as people can’t wait to see what they will do next. How can they match a spray can dress?
Robotic dogs that is how!
This show is based on a story called The Wolf and The Lamb, the story touches on the subject of different groups and how they interact and affect each other. In the show, humans and robots bring the story to life. To help tell the story, one of the pieces is a black leather jacket with an AI-painted scene of a lamb and a robot.
The Lamb is played by the models and the garments themselves. There was a scene that was played in the middle of the show by model Rianne Van Rompaey, where she and the robotic dog are entranced with each other and the robot actually pulls a blanket off of her and then gives it back.
Coperni is very technology driven overall, they use it in all aspects of their work and the dogs were not the only way they revealed their use of technology. Continuing with Coperni’s high-tech and futuristic ways, the designers commented that 70% of the collection is recycled. They are trying to make advancements to, once again, to communicate Coperni’s values and goals.
Now on to the collection itself. The show started off with a black suit without lapels, which shows the simplicity of what fashion can be. As they continue, there is a lot of business attire with blazers, dresses, and more suits. A lot of business attire has been seen during the previous fashion weeks, which is a telltale sign that it is going to be very popular later this year.
Most of the looks have very muted colors like black, gray, and white. However, as the show goes on, the designs of the garments become more complex. One dress near the end of the line is a mini dress made of a foil-like fabric that is scrunched to give that effect. Many of the pieces contain man-made fur and the designers use it to represent comfort and also more fables such as Little Red Riding Hood.
The last look of the collection has a statement piece, but it is not the garments, it is the purse. This purse is called “Meteorite” and was 3-D printed to give a glimpse of the past instead of the future. This purse was handcrafted, which is hard to tell because it looks just like what I could picture a meteorite with all of its small details and overall appearance. While all of the technology in Coperni’s show is fascinating and technologically advanced, it tones it down and provides a look into nature and the Earth itself.
