Summer Bikini Guide (All Sustainable)

It’s that time of year again: planning a summer getaway, wanting to look good on vacation, deciding you need an updated swimsuit, and endlessly scouring the internet for something you like.

I have always found bathing suits to be the hardest clothing to shop for. You need different sizes for tops and bottoms. There are only very specific swim tops that make your chest look good, and that fit is different for each person, and even changes from brand to brand. Plus, donning a swimsuit is, for many women, the most skin that they ever show in public, and feeling confident in a bathing suit, especially a two piece, can be a real challenge.

On top of all of that, let’s face it; swimsuits are expensive. It is difficult to find a bathing suit for less than $60, which seems like a lot for a piece of clothing that is usually worn infrequently (and which is so difficult to love for a long time).

Swimwear is the only category of clothing for which I have folded on my values and reached for fast fashion like Shein. Shopping for swimwear is so incredibly frustrating that the easiest option seems to be reaching for something cheap and disposable. With that in mind, I have put together a list of sustainable swimwear brands to shop at this summer for those who get as frustrated as I do in the search for the perfect beach bikini.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is swimwear sustainably made in California. They have an excellent selection of both one and two pieces in bright colors and patterns. Definitely reach for this brand if you are looking for a sexy bikini you are willing to invest in.

Galamaar

Galamaar has a great selection of swimsuits with retro 60s cuts and patterns. If what you are after is more of a dreamy disco bathing suit dream with more modest options, look no further.

Nettle’s Tale

Nettle’s Tale makes all their pieces in Vancouver, BC. This brand focuses less on the bikini and more on the body that is going to wear it; they make a wide variety of pieces, from cheeky to modest, for any body type (their sizes range from XS-4XL).

UND

If you want something more sleek and edgy, check out UND swim. Wear any of their swimsuits and you can instantly picture yourself on the poolside in the Hamptons, wearing a large beach hat, sipping on a vodka soda in the early afternoon. This is the swimsuit of the hot young wife in the movie that steps out onto the beach with all eyes on her.

This summer we are only wearing sustainable pieces.
