When I was young, I hated romantic comedies. I was staunchly opposed to watching anything that might be dubbed a ‘chick flick’. I was desperate to be taken seriously despite my womanhood, and I thought that pushing anything that may brand me as weak and feminine (because we are taught that these are synonyms) would protect me.
