The Exuberant Patterns of Australia Resort Fashion Week 2023
Full of color and also neutrals, each collection provides a unique depiction of visions for this next season. From Romance Was Born with their colorful pieces to Esse bringing back the classic, minimalistic style, there are a lot of diverse pieces to view.
Romance Was Born
The highly decorative and playful pieces all echoed the work of Ken Done, one of Australia’s most popular painters. They provide volumized dresses, shorts, and jackets all with the coral reefs and sea urchins of Australia. With the use of sequins and colorful tweed, this collection was most definitely one not to notice from miles away.
Bassike
Color-blocking will never go away, and Bassike makes sure of it. The vibrant hues and spirited silhouettes create extra motion for Bassike’s new collection. Little halter tops, trousers, and hip-hugging dresses are inspired by the Great Barrier Reef and its beautiful movements.
Iordanes Spyridon Gogos
Jordan Gogos brings technicolor to a whole new level. Every inch of fabric is covered in fluorescent colors and wild structures. Each piece has its own personality with their virago sleeves, elaborate headpieces, and unique shapes and curvature involved. The use of materials are used to the extreme making the ensemble that much more to dissect and admire.
Alix Higgins
Growing up in the ’00s Tumblr era, Alix Higgins was surrounded by fashion. Connecting with like-minded people allowed room for ideas that would later reflect on future collections. The gradients visible amongst the clothing are elongated digital images of sunsets. Some words on his pieces such as “finally fantasy” and “future” emphasize the desire of exploring our identities.
Jordan Dalah
Jordan Dalah works with a balloon effect which is often inspired from the comforts of home life. In this collection Dalah wanted to bring everyday objects into fashion. He bought supplies from his local hardware store and placed irrigation piping and foam tubing into the hems of his garments for a more rugged silhouette. It takes a rebellious girl to wear these pieces.
Esse
Charlotte Hicks’s collection embodies the simple, minimalistic look. She emphasizes the fuss-free elegance of neutrals and blacks. Her intention was also to create a collection that celebrates her past seasons and the desire to stray away from trend pieces to create family heirloom pieces. This collection includes looks of duster coats, blazers, tailored trousers, and white overcoats. Hicks has made it a priority to upcycle versions of excess materials that she has laying around. Sustainability is important to her as she has embarked on earning a B Corp certification, which confirms high performance, accountability, and transparency for anything that involves the company’s processes.
