The Golden Age of Fashion: Photographer Thierry le Goues Releases ‘90s Photo Book
Behind all of the iconic images featuring the best models of all time (Carla Bruni, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell) in the 90s, there was a photographer to capture them. Thierry le Goues, a French fashion photographer, was a defining voice in the creation of the best fashion looks of the 90s. He was one of the first photographers to work with Kate Moss, and photographed some of the most iconic shoots featuring these models. Now, he is releasing a coffee table book featuring his favorite photographs from “the golden age of fashion”.
The book will be called ‘90s and will come out this July. This is not le Goues’ first book; in 1998, he published a photo book, Soul, which was the first book published by a leading fashion photographer to feature exclusively Black models. The publication of this book and other work by le Goues helped in furthering more inclusive ideas of beauty in the industry.
Le Goues started his photography career working for Conde Nast in 1986. Since then, he has worked with magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire, Glamour, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, and Harper’s Bazaar, not to mention campaigns for dozens of iconic brands and fashion houses. Additionally, he is the artist behind celebrity portraits of starts like Beyonce, Cindy Crawford, and Brittney Spears.
Both Le Goues and his models credit the photographer’s magic touch to be how comfortable he makes his models during shoots. It is important to him that shoots are light and fun. He says that they- both him and his models- are always laughing, and that is why his photos work so well. There is a connection between subject and artist.
