The Hype Behind the Coperni Glass Swipe Bag
As a favorite brand of the Hadid sisters, Kylie Jenner, Alexa Demie, Hailey Bieber, and Rihanna, some of the few style icons, we can say that Coperni is making headlines especially with this new take on their original, Coperni Swipe bag. This is not a bag to drop on the ground by accident either. Coperni’s new glass bag in collaboration with the New-York based glassware and homeware company, Heven, has been all the talk and we are unpacking the reasons why.
The original leather bag has an oval shape, intentionally resembling an iPhone’s “swipe to unlock” icon, and is revamped into glass for only a limited time on their online store. The bag itself goes through a whole glassblowing process using an air hose and is then drilled for purse functionality.
The bag is able to hold one or two small objects, but is more so just a handheld work of art. Gigi Hadid and other models walked the Coperni Fall/Winter 2022 show with different versions of the bag coming in colors such as clear, chrome, and milky blue.
Doja Cat carried the blue glass bag to match her Versace dress on the Grammys carpet, while Tinashe also walked the carpet with the red glass bag to complement her bubblegum pink GCDS dress.
Kylie Jenner sported the clear bag with devil horns on her way to the Kardashians Hulu press day.
The glass bag highlights the messy necessities in a purse with its transparent features and serves as an extravagant frame for them. Jenner took the opportunity to promote her Kylie Cosmetics brand by placing two lip items in the luxurious, $2700 bag.
Fashion historian Kimberly Chrisman-Campbell says, “We can compare it to Cinderella’s glass slipper. It’s a very eye-catching yet very fragile piece. It almost defies reality that it can exist at all. It’s surrealist, and I think fashion is trending in that direction—you can’t believe your eyes.”
