The Iconic Omega Watch Brand
Watches have long been a status symbol that many love to show off. Rolex is arguably the most famous and most in demand luxury watch brands, but Omega watches are gaining in popularity.
Omega has been around since 1848 and started out as a small workshop in Switzerland. Almost 40 years later, the brand released its first mass produced caliber called the Labrador. Then several years later they released the industry-changing 19-line Omega Caliber, which gave the company its name. At the beginning of the 20th century, Omega became the official timekeeper for sporting events across Switzerland. One of their biggest partnerships came in 1932 for the Olympics in Los Angeles, and they have since continued to be the official timekeeper for over twenty Olympic Games.
Omega has designed and produced several iconic watches that have been worn by even more iconic people. The Seamaster watch is one of Omega’s best–it was first introduced in 1948 in celebration of Omega’s 100th anniversary. Daniel Craig–James Bond himself–is a proud owner of an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m Co-Axial chronometer, and another James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan, has also sported an Omega watch. Many significant people in history have worn the iconic Omega brand. The Speedmaster watch became the official chronograph for American space missions in 1965, and just a few years later, Buzz Aldrin took his first steps on the moon while wearing the Speedmaster.
The Omega watch brand has even graced the cover of Time Magazine. At his presidential inauguration, John F. Kennedy wore an Omega watch that was gifted to him. The 2mm caliber, black strap and a case of 18 carat gold watch was engraved to say “President of the United States John F. Kennedy, from his friend Grant.” Another one of history’s greats, Elvis Presley, wore an Omega Constellation while he served in the Army. Omega has been worn by music royalty as well as actual royalty. Prince William wears a Seamaster Professional that channels James Bond style.
Omega has stood the test of time while making classic luxury watches loved by many of society’s most influential figures. The iconic brand may get overshadowed by the brand name of Rolex, but the demand for Omega is increasing. Timeless, beautiful, masterfully-crafted watches have been a signature of Omega since 1848. Omega’s history is storied, and its future is bright.
