The Return of the Wedge

Wedge sandals are making a comeback this summer, and they are back and better than ever with new styles and shapes. Wedges made their last peak in early 2010, in the form of wedge sandals to wedge sneakers. But the revival of wedges can be seen in Tory Burch’s Spring Summer 2023 shoes. The brand is offering styles such as an espadrille wedge featuring monogrammed T canvas and ankle laces.

Other styles include a strappy leather wedge sandal embellished with Tory Burch’s signature brass coin. Both styles capture the essence of summer and are a step up from the platform sandals that have trended in years past. Other brands have released their take on wedges like  Jimmy Choo, whose summer 2023 collection features the Anise Wedge 85, a leather, square-toe sandal offered in both gold and black with an elegant criss-cross design. This footwear trend has been seen on the feet of celebrities like Bella Hadid and JLo.

Similar to wedges of the past, many of the emerging styles feature an espadrille base, and canvas top, reminiscent of popular shoes of the last decade. But unlike these shoes we’ve seen before, more styles of wedges are emerging that are different from last time, like Fendi’s Spring/Summer patent leather Fashion Show boots which come in a monochrome pewter blue or off-white. These boots are wedges with a modern twist, merging the trend with elements of this year's modern and futuristic themes.

Rather through nostalgia or a new take, the return of wedges as the must-have shoe of the summer and speculation on how wedges will take over fall and winter wear is up next.
