Who Is Ice Spice?

Who is Ice Spice? The rapper seems to be everywhere these days, from gracing the audio of every other TikTok on our For You pages to her most recent feature on a remix of Taylor Swift’s “Karma”.

In addition to this collaboration, Ice Spice is known for her hit song “The Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2,” which she performed in collaboration with PinkPantheress, as well as “Princess Diana,” which she performed with Nicki Minaj. She originally rose to prominence when her song “Munch (Feelin’ U)” went viral on TikTok.

With all of these high profile collaborations, it is clear that the Bronx-raised rapper is keen on making a name for herself. Her unique style and quick rise to popularity have earned her titles like “rap’s new princess” from the New York Times, and was called a “breakout star” by Time. Stylistically, her sound is close to Bronx drill, from the borough in which she grew up, though she has named a vast number of artists from rap history as influences, ranging from Lauryn Hill to Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim.

Born Isis Gaston and raised in the Bronx with a musical father, Ice Spice was surrounded with rap history throughout her life. It was while at college at SUNY Purchase that she started seriously working on her rap career after meeting a music producer RiotUSA. 

From her managers, to her collaborators, simply to other musicians who admire her work, everyone seems to agree that Ice Spice is something special.
