Why Only Eat Your Vegetables When You Can Wear Them?
German visual artist Bonny Carrera has come up with a very unique style in fashion using only Internet and his computer. The artist creates a new concept of clothes and even furniture using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Bonny Carrera takes vegetables and fruits and lets AI create a fashion piece out of a photo of that fruit/vegetable. For one to get his/her favorite vegetable portrayed as clothes all it takes is to ask on the artist’s Instagram post, then wait to be shocked. Using only a photo of a fruit the artist creates a whole collection featuring jackets, dresses, tops, skirts, pants, hats and even furniture in all sorts of patterns and unique “natural” colors.
The clothing is definitely daring and extravagant and that is what attracts so much attention. The clothes look very juicy and tasty. All the curves and colors of fruits are transferred to the clothes. That vision reminds us that there is so much beauty and uniqueness in everyday things and it takes just one person for us to notice it. It gives us a strange feeling, when you look at clothes from his collections, you almost want to check how ripe they are.
The photos and the styles look very realistic, the dresses hug the curves of the models (some are also AI) and the fruits and vegetables look edible. The colors of the fruits even subtly blend into the material of the clothing. Depending on the fruit, the piece of clothing can have a different volume, length and structure. Fruits are used both as a complete outfit and as an accessory (necklace, hat).
The artist also uses 3D to create furniture. He makes sofas in the form of fruits, vegetables and even sweets, creating the design we could have only dreamt about. That allows him to make normal furniture turn to art deco and show a taste in fashion (pun intended) through a desired piece. With Bonny Carrera’s creations we get to sit in all our favourite sweets, and who does not want to be snuggled in marshmallows?
Bonny Carrera puts fashion out of its comfort zone and plays with fruits and vegetables presenting them as patterns in 3D. He demonstrates fashion in a new creative way. However, the big dilemma is that he is not really a designer since he did not imagine this clothes himself but rather programmed a commuter to do so. His collections are beautiful, however, far from being real.
On his instagram he promotes a master class in which he can teach anyone to create such fashionable pieces. He says that all you need is a laptop and internet. However, what about imagination? We get a feeling that we should leave that to AI.
Fashion is definitely about imagination, but it is even more about creation. Human beings are the ones who wear clothes, hence he/she should be the one creating it, and not the IA. From this new vision of clothes we can definitely get inspired, but it will never replace a human’s mind and creativity.
