A Sneak-Peek into Adidas x Gucci Collaboration
Presented at FW22 back in February, Gucci gave a sneak-peek to a celebrity-filled audience at their “Exquisite Gucci” runway show in Milan. Little did they know that this would feature a new and exciting collaboration with Adidas. The Italian designer and German sportswear brands have created many new looks inspired by vintage sportswear of the ‘70s and ‘80s with a plethora of colors and mashed-up brand expressions. Alessandro Michele has always admired athleisure wear from the past, so this collection is a dream come true.
Both brands have a love for three stripes. You’ll find this mash-up of designs on track pants with the three white stripes from Adidas on one leg, and the three red and green stripes of Gucci on the other. The logos of each brand, the Adidas Trefoil and Gucci monogram, will also be featured on each product in the collection.
The menswear collection offers looks including tennis-style polos, running tights, monogrammed golf bags, driving gloves, and also bowling shirts and bags. There are also of course more leisure styles offered in the new collection such as wooden clogs, short suit sets, flared trouser-style track pants, and knit polos.
Berets, double-breasted blazers, sneakers, zippered corsets, sweaters, slacks, dresses, t-shirts, sweats, everything imaginable will be in the collection and we are only scratching the surface.
And did we mention that all products will be crafted with sustainable materials? Fabrics such as cotton, polyester, and viscose will be used. The canvas Gucci bucket hat and baseball cap, for instance, will be made with ECONYL regenerated nylon.
The new collection that we all are anticipating drops on June 7 online and in select Gucci stores. So, you will have the entire summer to catch up on this sportswear and designer brand collaboration. Afterall, fashion has always found peace in mixing streetwear into designer and designer into streetwear. Gucci has already collaborated with North Face in 2021. Adidas and Alexander Wang’s collaboration has sparked all the talk as well in 2016. If that doesn’t go to show the increasingly hot mix of streetwear and luxury, I don’t know what does.
Streetwear is cool, while designer clothes are luxurious and fashionable. Everybody wants what they don’t have, so why not both at the same time?
