Blumarine Set Itself on Fire
So Blumarine and Joan of Arc became the duo we didn’t know we needed.
Blumarine was on fire, literally. The runway was a dry land oasis with a giant iron-cast B set a blaze. Blumarine’s burning tribute to the passion of Joan of Arc who was Nicolas Brognano’s seasonal muse.
Indulging in the theatrics, models walked through the dirt in liquid dripping effect thighs and mini dresses. Trading last season's bubbly Y2K era for a 2010’s boho-chic, YSL inspired era. Blumarine’s gracious and popular revival in 2019 happened thanks to its heavy association with Y2K aesthetic and this new collection proved that Blumarine is not a one trick pony.
Transitioning from their modern, grunge, Y2K mermaid model didn't happen overnight. Although Blumarine is a brand that doesn’t normally look back into its archival looks for inspiration, this time around Nicolas caved in and found magic in the unexpected.
The creative director opened up to Vogue and confessed how an old 90´s photograph that resurfaced featuring a young Milla Jovovich sparked his curiosity. Leading him down a rabbit hole that ended with him watching The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, 1999. Boom! He found his muse.
Blumarine was one of the latest brands to go under a revival in an effort to stay relevant and its newest aesthetic is one appealing to its 2000’s DNA mixed with a little of Dsqured, Fanci Club and YSL.
Thighs fitting metallic dresses, metallic jersey bodycon, shearling detailed mini skirts, leggings covering pointy toed heels and lots and lots of buckles.
If it’s liquid, metallic, has a buckle and looks like something the Olsen Twins or Rachael Zoe would’ve worn then it most likely be a Blumarine design.
The see through fabrics and bustier gowns with frayed hem skirts added to the erotic and sensual element of Blumarine’s new found aesthetic.
Model Adit Priscilla followed the burning theme to a point as she looked on fire in a red, frayed, back-bearing gown.
Blumarine’s latest collection and previous collaboration with creative director Petra Collins has me excited for the brand's future.
