Cherry and Home do Knitwear Like No One Else
Meet artistic creative couple, Cherry W. Rain-Phuangfueang and Home Phuangfueang. What started as an artistic outlet became a vintage business that eventuallly developed into a brand. The creative duo design knitwear that stems from the idea of “thrifting”, as all their pieces are one of a kind.
Their multicultural background has certainly inspired their work. Their story is one that resonates and is admirable. Their fashion adventure and business journey didn’t start like one would normally think. The no designers do not have a former education in fashion, styling or sewing, however they did share a common passion for creativity which led them to open their own vintage resale shop. One that would eventually, due to financial issues, force them in some way to turn to knitting which turned to Nong Rak.
In an interview by Celeste Hay, Cheery and Home described their creative process as being super organic, there is little sketching and the final result is sort of a surprise.
Like many small businesses or emerging brands that are not into the whole fast fashion irresponsible business model, figuring out how to make clothes that are one of a kind and make good revenues without being excessively expensive is one of the brands main challenges.
“We just want to be able to do our work and not have to worry and struggle. That’s the dream.” – Cherry W. Rain-Phuangfueang
Social and environmental responsibility are the driving force behind Nong Rak, both have expressed how they find mass production to be scary and how they believe that having a special piece is way more rewarding and important. In their eyes , to find out how to become sustainable, a process they are learning about, they are starting off by turning the trimmed yarn into recycled yarn.
Nong Rak encapsules everything fashion can and should be, a space for creativeness, uniqueness, responsibility and a detachment from the shallowness that drowns it.
