Christian Siriano Channels Audrey Hepburn for his New Collection
Christian Siriano kicked off New York Fashion Week with a collection defined in the show notes as "Audrey Hepburn's rose garden at midnight,” inspired by the golden Hollywood icon herself. The show took place in Gotham Hall’s Golden Dome with the audience surrounded by an array of different colored roses. Hepburn was known for her clothing, elegance and glamor. For this collection, Siriano wanted to channel that same glamor and elegance into his gowns and suits. Many celebrities such as Lindsey Lohan and Quinta Brunson graced the front row in fashionable outfits matching the glamor of the collection and with Siriano being loved and worn by many celebrities on the red carpet, this is not surprising. He has become a staple in both celebrity fashion and during New York Fashion Week.
His designs for this collection had more of a modern twist on Hepburn’s style. It featured various colorful and patterned gowns and suits that cascaded down the floral runway. This collection screamed Hollywood and celebrity. The gowns and suits were very extravagant and anyone can envision their favorite celebrity wearing them on the red carpet or for an event. Sirano decided to push back against typical fall colors and leaned fully into bright colors and patterns that wouldn’t typically be worn in the fall.
The fabrics featured were lots of tulle, satin, floral and sheer fabrics. To match with the flowers on the runway, Siriano covered most of his models in flower accents or floral prints. In true Siriano fashion, the models were heavily accessorized with some wearing matching hats and extravagant silver diamonds matching the glamor of the collection. The show was closed with Siriano’s muse, Coco Rocha, in a black and pink tulle gown that was double breasted.
In an interview with Popsugar, Siriano said about the collection, “The idea is that it's Audrey Hepburn's rose garden, but at midnight. It's still sexy glamorous. She did this miniseries called "Gardens of the World," where she went on tour of all these gardens, so we wanted to blend different cultures that inspired us florally, but in a modern way. There are rose prints, but they're abstract. I wanted things to feel like they're in art form, so even things that have flowers feel organic, as if they're growing into something.”
This was a great kickoff to New York Fashion Week. Siriano combined the glamor of both old and new Hollywood for this collection, taking inspiration from Audrey Hepburn and for good reason. Hepburn has been a big influence on the fashion industry then and now with her elegant and glamorous looks in her movies and her frequent collaborations with designer Hubert de Givenchy. With the use of bright head turning colors and patterns, it is clear that this collection will be worn by lots of celebrities on future red carpets.
