Cindy Crawford Returns to MCM

MCM is simultaneously throwing it back and looking to the future with its most recent campaign. On August 20th, the German fashion brand dropped two new exciting surprises: a revamped version of their iconic monogram seen on hundreds of their products, as well as the return of an iconic face for the brand, global supermodel Cindy Crawford.

Cindy Crawford is one of the most influential supermodels of her age. The star originally modeled for the brand back in 1996 when she was 30 years old, 10 years into what would become one of the most iconic modeling careers in history. Originally shot by famous American photographer Herb Ritts, the print ad campaign consisted of close shots of the model with a variety of MCM bag styles slung over her shoulder, like the MCM sling bag. In another shot, Cindy is perched on top of a stack of MCM monogrammed luggage cases.

Cindy now returns to the brand looking as gorgeous as ever posed over a pile of brown leather MCM monogram bags in a variety of styles. She wears a simple all-black ensemble, a keyhole long-sleeve blouse, black fitted pants, and pointed ballet flats. In her arm, she hugs MCM’s Mode Travia shoulder bag.  A brown, calf leather bag embossed with an MCM logo. This picture is reminiscent of the 1996 photo of her atop the brand's luggage cases.

To redo a monogram is no small change for a fashion brand. It serves as one of the most prominent indicators for the brand, take Louis Vuitton or Micheal Kors. Seen on many of their products, MCM’s monogram is iconic, and the new one takes elements from the original design, focusing less on the brand name, and now, more on the laurel leaves and ribbon, symbolic of honor and victory.

Cindy’s return to the brand was the perfect way to bring in a new era of MCM. A nod to the past paired with a glimpse into the future with the new logo.
