Gigi Hadid for Miu Miu
Italian fashion brand Miu Miu has had many iconic faces over the past few years like internet personality Emma Chamberlin who wore a darling icy blue Miu Miu ensemble for the 2023 Met Gala and model Zaya Wade who serves as a brand ambassador and has walked in the brand’s Fall Winter 2023 fashion show. Supermodel Gigi Hadid is among those on Miu Miu's quintessential list. She is making a return to the brand for their Wander Bag. This campaign is directed by Edward Quarmby, the artist behind campaigns for Louis Vuitton and Bottega Veneta.

Miu Miu’s signature Wander bag is a returner for the brand season after season, released in tweaked styles and trending bold fall colorways like the firetruck red Wanderbag featured in a shot of Gigi slumped in a comically large red wooden chair. The unique hobo-style bag is made up of pristine Nappa leather. The texture of this bag sets it apart from others. Created using a matelassé technique, the leather has a geometric chevron-like look that creates a one-of-a-kind surface interest. This stunning bag comes both in a standard size and mini in shades black, khaki, and bubblegum pink. The Wander bag also comes in non-matelassé styles such as the crotchet and wicker Spring/Summer 2023 styles.
For this shoot, Gigi Hadid was styled by Lotta Volka, the creative mind behind many of Miu Miu’s campaign looks. The star was dressed in a mini white pleated mini skirt with a wide brown belt, a grape purple cardigan, and Miu Miu loafers with mid-calf socks. She was the spitting image of a youthful Miu Miu girl, sporting a short blonde cut with bangs and light makeup. The set, comprised of a grape purple backdrop, and a complimentary red chair gave the images a pop.

The set of a video posted on Miu Miu’s Instagram page posted on August 20th reminded me of a dollhouse. A washy paint texture makes up a backdrop of an alabaster wall and a bright tangerine door that seems as two-dimensional as the rest of the backdrop. Here, Gigi is featured participating in uncomplicated movements, rising and dropping the Miu Miu handbags from above her head, to relaxing them and letting them fall to her sides. A short voice-over plays as the pattern continues.

In addition to the Wander bag, a similar video promoting the Arcane bag, also featuring Gigi Hadid is seen in this Fall 2023 campaign also discussing concepts of space and perception through a voice-over complimenting a video. This video promotes the new colorways of the Wander and Arcane bags that came out on August 3rd, including a deep turquoise and the energetic red pictured in Gigi Hadid’s Wander Bag video. The rich shades pair elegantly with the tones of fall and Gigi is the perfect face to bring in these new colors.
Miu Miu seeks to find this season's fall statement pieces in the form of showstopping handbags, in bright hues sure to stand out against any outfit. These deeper shades, in comparison to the variety we saw for the warmer seasons, pave the way for a fall of elegant neutrals and bold accessories.
