Did The Academy Music Gala Deliver the Most Glamorous & Stunning Red Carpet

Did you catch last night's West Coast Met Gala red carpet? It was arguably the most impressive display of high fashion in years! With our critics’ hats on and our inner fashion editor connoisseur ready to go, we welcomed singers, models and actresses to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures Gala held in Los Angeles. An event, running now for four years, which has rapidly become a Mecca for stunning vintage fashion moments, and this year was absolutely not an exception.

The internet, as rare as it may sound, came together under the banner of ‘we agree this is a unanimous hit’, not an easy task which tells us everything we need to know about the glamourous, high-fashion spectacle that is it was -as Gen Z would say “slay”, hands down.

The gala serves as a fundraising event supporting the museum's exhibitions, educational programs and more. Whilst the night celebrated directors and filmmakers; Moreno received the Icon Award while Tarantino was honored with the Luminatu Award, the real categories we care about are Best Dressed of The Evening (one we just created but equally important).

In a surprising twist of events just as we are ready to write off this season as a style dry spell, archival Valentino, vintage Givenchy and perfectly fitted gowns turned up, leaving us quite breathless, which goes to prove what a sight for sore eyes this formal evening was and a glorious fashion comeback.

The Gala’s co-chair compromised by Salma Hayek, Nicole Kidman, Eva Longoria and Tyler Perry raised over eleven million dollars who carried on the evenings programming welcoming on stage film royalty from Steven Spielberg to Saoirse Ronan and Cynthia Erivo, all kept under wraps in true Met Gala modus operandi. Yet one thing was certain: everyone looked gorgeous. Period.

One of the most outstanding archival looks presented on that night was Kaia Gerber’s Givenchy gown by Alexander McQueen from the Fall 1997 collection, featuring a dark, gothic twist on the classic My Fair Lady dress. Actress Rooney Mara also embraced vintage Givenchy, dazzling in a sheer baby doll midi dress from John Galliano’s Fall 1996 collection, complete with lace underwear and intricately embroidered baroque floral appliqués.

Ariana Grande made a statement in a recreation of a 1963 polka dot strapless gown by Balmain, while Saoirse Ronan stunned in a gorgeous Louis Vuitton ensemble, presumably styled by her new stylist, Kate Young who has been giving lessons in how Hollywood stars should dress. Taking home the prize for most innovative styling was Laura Harrier who kept things modern with a hint of punk in a Ludovic de Saint Sernin infinity gown.

Cynthia Erivo graced the red carpet in Louis Vuitton, to no one's surprise in her signature shade of green—a color that, by now, is undeniably hers. The strapless structured midi gown highlighted her impeccable style, while the matching jewels elevated the look to a new level of beauty and luxury. The color of envy never looked this good!

While the Wicked star sparkled in sequins, Greta Lee turned heads in feathers—yes, you read that right, feathers! Straight off the runway, her Loewe couture gown which can appear to be just another floral print, but the trained eyes and enthusiast know Jonathan Anderson would never settle for anything that ordinary. The minimalist styling, paired with black sandal heels and a stunning emerald ring, made this look an impeccable statement.
