Dilara Fındıkoğlu Wants You To Feel Uncomfortable

Silence. Awkward. Uncomfortable. Yes, that is what Dilara delivered at her SS23 runway show. Don’t get it wrong, while the presentation did make guests feel all those ways it also was what made it memorable and powerful.

After two years of isolation, due to COVID, which led to exploration and analysis, Dilara confronted her childhood traumas. Her younger self dreamt about escaping the cage she felt trapped in by religion, tradition. A feeling she confronted and wanted to translate into her upcoming designs and projects. The collection opened with a look reminiscent of innocence, moving to darker periods, hence all th black outfits and after mourning came a rebirth in the form of feathers.

Dilara’s past collections have positioned her as one of Fashion Week’s most anticipated designers, she truly pushes viewers to their limit and makes them face the beauty that resides in uncomfortability and provocativeness.

Imagine sitting, waiting for the models to come out onto the runway and when they do all is silent except for the clack heels made. There really isn’t room left for anything else but to immerse yourself into the silent awkwardness and enjoy the show. With no auditory distraction the intensity of observing heightens.

Models channeled their inner conflicts and translated it into seductive, slow and intense walks. As they made their way through as delicate layers of tulle, Victorian corsetry, tightly plaited hair skirt, sheer bodices, low-rise denim, stockings, lace and leather hugged their bodies.

Dilara’s creations allure to a dark, sexual, femenine side that made the models look like they had powers and could literally destroy anyone or anything that came their way.
