Hardware LDN’s Edgy Looks in NYFW Spring 2022
The glowing purple backdrop lights illuminated the room before the show began. Suddenly, the room dimmed as the white bright lines shined down on the models walking down the runway to instrumental intense, chic music. The music emphasized the edgy-feel of the beautiful faux leather, Mongolian fur collars and cuffs, hot pink snakeskin leather, knitted jersey, and so many other cool-girl looks. The grunge, yet sexy aesthetic is very much in style nowadays and the looks on the runway portrayed this to the T.
Based in London, Hardware LDN was founded by Jessica Horwell in 2014. The streetwear brand takes shape from Horwell’s youth in London and their many subcultures from rockers, to the punks, mods, and hippies, to name a few. Hardware LDN brings the subcultures together to keep the youth of London alive with its bold and provocative looks. Horwell started by creating jewelry from hardware in her friend’s garage. Requests from close friends, Cara Delevigne and Rita Ora for custom jewelry pieces turned into collections and soon became a recognized brand by other celebrities. Some celebrities seen wearing Hardware LDN include Kourtney Kardashian, Bella Hadid, and Sofia Richie.
Horwell moved to Los Angeles in search of new, unique fabrics to expand her brand. Now based in London, L.A., and New York, Horwell has established a large following between buyers, the press, and celebrities with her playful, provocative fabrics of leather, Mongolian fur, jersey knit, and most of all hardware where it all started.
The collection shown at NYFW on Feb. 12, displayed the aura of the overall brand with its feminine and edgy designs. She touches on the Matrix look adding long leather trench coats into her collection with fur collars and cuffs. With matching sets to pair with the trench coats for a fun night out will make you the trendsetter of the decade.
Here are some looks from the NYFW Spring 2022 show:
This look was definitely a favorite of mine. The faux leather outfit with the touch of the Mongolian fur along the collar and cuffs of the jacket made the outfit look very put together, and simple, yet sleek. It was paired with a black leather ruched baguette bag with gold hardware along the handle. Gold earrings and rectangular shaped sunglasses top off the look with slicked back braids and chunky loafers.
Faux leather is one of those fashions you will constantly see others wear on the street. Make it really street style by putting it into a tracksuit set of faux leather joggers in black with a royal blue stripe going down the leg and a matching bomber jacket with snap buttons for closure. The sleeves are also royal blue to keep up with the color scheme. Paired with a black turtleneck underneath, work shoes, and rectangular shaped sunglasses to add to that cool-girl aesthetic.
Another set, but in jersey knit fabric. Comfortability while keeping it hot and trendy is the way to go when dressing up for any occasion. The model is shown walking in a halter neck with a keyhole to reveal some skin and a mid-rise matching skirt with a slit in the leg. The top and skirt have a hardware piece in the middle of each piece to pull the fabric inwards for a tighter fit. The look is paired with black-high knee socks and work shoes to give the look a more modern street style vibe.
A leather snakeskin skirt and cropped top set, and it’s pink! To give it more edge, the top is held up with chain straps. The model is sporting a bandana, cat eye sunglasses, and a chain choker necklace to match the straps of the cropped top. Giving the I.AM.GIA grunge look, we love what Horwell is achieving in this look making it a must have.
If you are going for the more preppy look, but wanting to keep it more casual, cool-girl at the same time, the poof sleeves are also very much in trend. The ruching on the sleeves of this dress add some flavor along with the diamond buttons attaching across the torso. The dress flares out to give a feminine look amongst the cool-girl aesthetic. Paired with black high-knee socks and work shoes brings the outfit to a more casual level.
Of course the fur trench coat has to be included. It can top off any outfit. Whether for running errands or going out, this jacket is so versatile it can be paired with anything. Its faux leather and black and white fur adds a chic touch to the collar and cuffs of the jacket paired with a little black dress, high knee black socks, and chunky loafers.
