It’s Not Just Haute Couture, It’s Alta Moda by Dolce & Gabbana…
Sicily was popping with color this past Sunday when Dolce & Gabbana came to town to strut their new looks down the runway. Celebrities flooded the crowd and contributed to D&G’s notorious camp aesthetics with their luxurious ensembles.
After an extravagant week of Haute Couture, D&G gave us an epic show at Siracusa’s Piazza Duomo, overlooking the Siracusa Cathedral to celebrate the launch of their new Alta Moda collection and Alta Moda’s tenth anniversary.
After 27 years in the business, Alta Moda had freshly become a part of D&G’s collections only ten years ago with their 73 designs including intricate, hand-painted silk gowns and other celebrated Italian craftsmanship pieces.
With a reenactment of Cavalleria Rusticana by Pietro Mascagni, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana wanted the newest collection to embody the religion, faith, and family of Sicily. They also highlighted one of their favorite colors, black, to bring out the sexiness behind Sicilian widows’ all-black wardrobe.
Some looks included a wedding dress with a matching headpiece, embellished details on gowns, voluminous dresses with matching jackets, robes made from neutral laces, and jeweled corsets.
After the festivities, there were more festivities. D&G continued the 4-day celebration with a concert in a 5th century Greek theater, a beach club dinner that ended with fireworks, and a dance party under seaside luminaria.
