Jamie Maree Shipton; Fashion’s Freshest Creative

Jamie Maree Shipton is not doing fashion styling like everyone else. The Australian-born art director and stylist got her start in journalism, moving to London in search of an audience that understood what she was trying to do. She found it, and has been soaring to success ever since, and is quickly becoming one of the industry’s most sought out creators.

She is always on the look for the avant garde, for fresh names and ideas. She doesn't feel the need to turn to heritage houses for her work, feeling she can accomplish the same effect while spotlighting up and coming designers. She makes it a point of her job to spend time seeking out new talent, people who are uncorrupted by the industry, and therefore sets herself- and them- apart.

This point of view has given many young designers the boost that they need to succeed in the fashion industry, as well as setting the stylist apart from many of her contemporaries and making her a unique figure in the fashion world. It is a symbiotic relationship. She is known as the person who can spot the next big thing, be that a designer, a model, or another creative. Through this work, Shipton has worked with magazines like i-D, Interview, Vogue Italia, and Novembre.

Her art direction is weird and cool, in keeping with the very young creative voices that she works with. She is unafraid to make the viewer uncomfortable with grotesque or surreal imagery. Being someone who focuses so much energy into working with people who do not focus on the commercial aspect of the industry is heavily reflected in her work, which is incredibly original and rarely centers the commercial.

Shipton is certainly someone to keep an eye on, especially if you want to know what is coming in the fashion world. She has made it clear that her keen eye is one to be trusted.
