Kim Kardashian for Marc Jacobs Fall 2023
The Kardashian family's influence seems to touch everything, especially fashion. On August 7th, Marc Jacobs removed all of their Instagram posts and posted a single video with clips of a woman, dressed in Marc Jacobs ensembles, but not showing her face. The first is their iconic Lili Strappy Platform Pumps in white with a metallic skirt, and in the second clip, black and white polka dot tights with the same shoes, a fitted ribbed black skirt, black blazer, and their iconic small leather tote in one of their newest colors, the third clip pans to silver balloons spelling out Marc Jacobs. The caption just announced 8.09.23. Fans waited in anticipation to see what exciting announcement the New York fashion brand had to share.
The following day, a close-up of Kim Kardashian, shot by Tyrone Lebon, was posted to the page and over the following days Marc Jacobs dropped photographs from their latest fall campaign. A full Kim K takeover. The star posed in full black and white looks from the Fall 2023 collection, styled by Alastair McKimm. In one photo, she poses over metallic balloons dressed in Lili Strappy Platform Pumps in white, a mini-length satin black skirt, a black corset top, coordinating black and white polka dot gloves, and a leather handbag.
While many adore the Karjenner clan and admire the products they produce and promote, some questioned the brand’s choice to use Kim Kardashian as the face of such an edgy collection and brand. One commenter on Marc Jacobs’ page said,
“Where did all the hip, edgy, chic, interesting models MJ used to champion in his ads? This ain’t it.”
Marc Jacobs’ price points have risen over the past few years, as their brands have gained more relevance in mainstream fashion, specifically their Snapshot Bag and The Tote Bag collection, popular globally and offered in hundreds of colorways. Kim Kardashian’s presence in the ad campaign no doubt carried a hefty price tag, and she has worked with basically any successful designer you can think of from Dolce and Gabbana to Louis Vuitton. I wonder how this campaign will affect Marc Jacobs' mid-range luxury prices going forward.
Rather you love her or you hate her, it’s without a doubt that Kim Kardashian carries a lot of influence. Her face is recognizable by many, and her sense of style is undeniable. Marc Jacobs wanted the best when it came to promoting his Fall 2023 collection and went for just that.
