Some skincare products to get your hands on in your twenties

If you grew up digging in your mom’s makeup bag or watching Youtube on how to apply the perfect smokey eyeshadow, and now currently need advice on what products prevent future wrinkles, then you are in the right place. Beauty experts say that your twenties is the time to start using anti-aging creams and to start paying more attention to your skin regime.

First of all, are you using a cleanser and moisturizing? Because those are the basic steps to clean, healthy skin. In fact, it is the bare minimum. Here are some good cleansers and moisturizers worth investing in to get all that day’s worth of dirt out of your pores.

Youth to the People Cleanser ($36), sephora.com

I have used this cleanser and I will say, it is definitely one of the best. My face feels so refreshed after I wash up, and if you need something to wake you up in the morning, this face wash does the trick with cold water. (And it smells good too.) There are no sulfates, which is a major plus, and it can be used on oily, combo, and normal skin types. It has vitamins C, E, and K to support skin health. This product is vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free, and is packaged with recycled materials.

Tatcha Rice Wash ($36), sephora.com

This is a verified “clean” product by Sephora and is great to wash away impurities without stripping skin. Tatcha leaves skin feeling soft and nourished with the Japanese Algae ingredient. Hyaluronic acid is also something to keep in mind when purchasing skin care because it keeps skin hydrated to maintain the youthful skin of yours. Dry, normal, and combo skin can use this product.

Cerave Cleanser (14.99), ulta.com

And of course, the drugstore classic, Cerave. You can never go wrong with the dermatologist-tested Cerave. This product has been on the market since 2005, and is thriving. It is best suitable for normal and dry skin. It helps retain the skin’s natural moisture with hyaluronic acid. Ceramides are also in the formula to restore and maintain the skin’s natural barrier.

Now for the moisturizers…

Charlotte’s Magic Cream ($100), sephora.com

This one is on the pricier side, but I will say, the cream is heavenly. It is a thicker cream so may be better for the colder seasons, but can be worn year-round to your heart’s content. Charlotte Tilbury knows what she is doing when preparing her formula. There are no sulfates or parabens and it is known to be age-defying. The bionymph peptide complex prevents any wrinkles from appearing and improves elasticity. Refills are also allowed!

Drunk Elephant Polypeptide Cream ($68), sephora.com

This formula has many growth factors, amino acids, signal peptides, and pygmy water lily to help improve skin firmness. Wrinkles, lines, and sun damage are reduced with the use of the moisturizer daily. Signal peptide complex helps maintain moisture in the skin while restoring the bounce. Pygmy water lilies have antioxidants that support youthful skin. Lastly, soybean folic acid ferment extract plays a vital role in maintaining elasticity since skin is in need of folic acid.

Philosophy Hope in a Jar ($39), ulta.com

The good ole’ Philosophy. The smooth-glow multi-tasking moisturizer does the most for your skin when applied daily. Its key ingredients include glycolic and hyaluronic acids, and pro-vitamin p. Glycolic acid will do the job to promote skin surface cell renewal while hyaluronic acid does the usual- hydrate. This product will make your skin smooth and reduce wrinkles.

Serums are a great addition to your regime to put on right after you wash your face in the morning and night. Serum should also be applied before anything else in your routine such as moisturizer and/or makeup. Here are some great serums on the market right now:

Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinol Serum ($85-$122), sephora.com

If you have sensitive skin and do not want wrinkles, this serum is perfect for you. It has retinol complex which helps reduce pores, wrikners, lines, and dark spots. The antioxidants rid any redness and promote a glowing complexion, while the hawaiian white honey calms and nourishes the skin.

Tatcha The Dewy Serum ($88), sephora.com

Tatcha’s serum contains lactic acid in hadasei-3 which supports skin smoothness. Hyaluronic acid as we know it continues to replenish hydration in the skin for a plump appearance. And lastly, squalane derived from sugarcane locks moisture in for the whole day.

Drunk Elephant B-Hydra™ Intensive Hydration Serum ($48), sephora.com

Drunk Elephant’s hydrating serum improves skin texture and tone. This lightweight serum has pineapple ceramide which further improves the skin’s luminosity. Provitamin B5 is in the serum to hold hydration. Sodium hyaluronate also adds hydration, but further reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Other than cleanser, serum, and moisturizer, keep your skincare routine as simple as possible. It is always good to exfoliate once a week and to do a mask for a self care day, but otherwise, your main regime should be no more than 3-4 products. Mixing a lot of products can potentially make your skin irritated, and we want to do anything but that. Having a skin regime even with the bare minimum products will do that much more for your skin. Have a self-care day and put on a mask while watching your favorite TV show, it isn’t the hardest thing to do and you are taking care of yourself in the best way possible.
