Big Names Returning to Milan Fashion Week
There is nothing like seeing the lights, the stages, and the big productions that go into a show at fashion week. Over the past couple years, fashion weeks have taken a hit due to the ongoing pandemic. Some of the major names in fashion have skipped the in person shows and come up with creative alternatives for the presentation of their new collections.
The digital platform does have its advantages. It allows for more brands and labels to participate. Financial backing and support is not as much of an obstacle when presenting virtually. This gives smaller brands the opportunity to gain more exposure on one of the biggest stages in fashion. The digital stage also offers a creative challenge for brands. Over the course of the pandemic, labels have risen to the challenge and come up with unique ways to showcase their collections. From immersive video game-like presentations to short films, brands were able to present their designs in an engaging way despite not being in person. These alternative presentations showed the resilience and adaptability of the fashion industry, yet there was still a distant, cold feeling–something was missing. The beginning of 2022 has brought back the magic of the in person shows and presentations at fashion week.
Milan Fashion Week runs February 22- 28 this year, and it is returning to its full glory with its biggest names coming back with in person shows and presentations. After taking a break from Milan and showing other places, Gucci is back. During the pandemic Gucci played around with various digital presentation styles as well as sit down dinners, and most recently, the Gucci Love Parade in Los Angeles on Hollywood Boulevard. Instead of their regular time slot on Wednesday, Gucci will be presenting on Friday. Finally after a couple years of missing Gucci at Milan Fashion Week, the iconic label will bring the fashion drama back to the runway.

Bottega Veneta is another big name returning to the runways of Milan. Bottega Veneta’s new creative director, Matthieu Blazy, will make his Milan Fashion Week debut. Unlike other brands that increased their social media presence over the pandemic, Bottega Veneta took an opposite approach. Last year, the brand started disappearing from social media platforms, seeming to be less accessible. Then the brand published a digital journal on their own website. Despite not having its own social media accounts, Bottega Veneta’s digital journal spread everywhere. As one of the most popular fashion labels, it seems unbelievable to not find them anywhere on social media, yet without its own accounts, Bottega Veneta is still blowing up on social media.
2022 is going to be the year of the resurgence of fashion spectacles. In person runway shows and presentations at fashion weeks in the fashion capitals of the world. There is no denying that the colors are brighter, the silhouettes are more stunning, and the details are more delicate when designers step out from behind the digital screen and come back to life at in-person events.
