The Academy Award’s Champagne Carpet Best Looks
Last night the 95th Academy Awards gave out what many consider to be the most prestigious accolade in the film industry.
A ceremony that through its longevity has cemented itself as one of the year's most anticipated nights. An evening that gatherers the best talents of the industry and has birthed some unforgettable moments, not to worry this time there was no physical violence. What did take place was an array of beautiful and talented women who walked the champagne carpet.
Just as a side note I am torn between loving and hating the carpets' new hue. Lisa Love, creative team leader behind the Met Gala, was responsible for the change in color which she said represented the saffron color before the golden hour. The red carpet wasn’t the only one who opted for the neutral tone.
The nights leading women nominated for their outstanding performances in Everything Everywhere all at Once, Blonde and The Fabelmans were visions in white.
Neutrals, blacks and pops of color
Ever since Freaky Friday premiered Jamie Lee Curtis immediately became my ultimate favorite actress and last night she won her first Oscar for Best Supporting Actress! Wearing a long sleeved, champagne colored Dolce & Gabbana gown. Also in champagne and glittering rhinestones was Best Lead Actress nominee Ana de Armas, who might have subtly paid homage to Marylin Monroe’s famous gown. A fitted silhouette, embellished mermaid-like scalloped train. Shoutout to Louis Vuitton for finally dressing her in something flattering and pretty.
De Arma’s fellow nominee, Michelle Williams, wore a Chanel Couture dress and a sheer, draped cape. And the night's big winner, Michelle Yeoh, accepted the golden statue for Best Lead Actress in a Dior ivory silk gown adorned with cascading feathers with jewelry from Moussaieff. Classic, elegant and literally historic.
Classic, elegant and the perfect complement to the champagne carpet: black. Lady Gaga who performed during the televised ceremony showed up to the champagne carpet in a freshly off the runway gown from Versace, the same look Gigi Hadid modeled in last Thursday's Los Angeles presentation. Followed by future mamma of two, who also performed for the second time pregnant, was Rihanna wearing a monochromatic Alaïa gown. Her growing baby bump was in full display in a sheer turtleneck and leather skirting with matching halter bralette. Someone pinte don't know how Riki’s hair looks like the Bratz doll hair from that one meme and I can’t unsee it. Elizabeth Olsen probably wore my favorite look of the night, the actress wore a slink Givenchy dress with draped transparencies and beaded fringes.
Even though white, champagne and black were the norm we still had some major gorgeous pops of color. Starting off with Cate Blanchet who was also nominated for her outstanding role on Tár looked like a true Hollywood star in a navy blue train skirt and aqua draped structured top. The way lights reflected the fabric made Blanchet shine. Fellow nominee Angela Bassett also went the colorful way in a royal purple, silk structured Moschino gown. Hong Chau went minima, in a structured pink Prada gown with a Mandarin collar.
Men’s fashion was definitely a thousand times better at the Vanity Fair’s after party, more on that in an upcoming article. As for the actual Oscar’s champagne carpet we have to mention Daniel Khan’s fiery red blazer which was a direct tribute to his genre-defying film which won Best Picture. If you’ve seen Everything Everywhere All At Once then you’ll recognize the gold letters spelling PUNK on Evelyn’s sweater.
A night where history was made and one more night that reminds us how far we are from gender equality. Hopefully next year we will be talking about the female director nominees looks of the night.
