The Acne Studios Show was Straight Out from a Fairytale

Acne Studios debuted their new ready-to-wear collection that was straight from a fairytale.

The show was set in a dark setting that was created by Shona Heath, who created dreamlike trees and crochet flowers mirroring an enchanted forest for the show. Creative director Jonny Johansson pulled from childhood memories on Northern Sweden for this collection. The collection had a nostalgic feel to it and obviously pulled from nature.

The brand had a front row full of well known faces such as Jared Leto. From fairy dresses and loose silhouettes, this collection was whimsical and dreamlike, merging many of the garments with more grunge elements like darker colors and rips.

The goal for Johansson was for the audience to escape into nature. There were fairy dresses made out of various leaf prints and fabrics. In a world that is fueled by technology, this collection offers a different take and steps away from technology. This makes for a refreshing collection that was a breath of fresh air. Johansson said about the collection, “I felt that there’s been a lot of fashion inspired by technology and all these tech things, so I just wanted to do something else. I’m a little bit bored with all this technology…With this collection, I was thinking about the dark winters we have in Sweden, where there are only a few hours of daylight. I wanted to capture the beauty of the darkness in both the collection and the set,” he said. “Scandinavia is the kind of place where the city ends abruptly and then the pine forest begins. I’ve always enjoyed the contrast between urban life and nature, the idea that an infinite forest is just around the corner. I wanted everything to have a crafty, homemade feel, with a colour palette of moss, bark and leaves, then the contrast with the acid colours of flowers you get in the forest to attract animals.”

This collection was an ode to nature and the natural world. It was an escape from a technologically based world and industry that often relies on it to make or create garments. The setting created by Heath was a dark enchanted forest for models to walk into the embodiment of the collections theme. Along with this, Johansson was able to show nostalgia through his collection inspired by his life in Sweden. The collection was unique and certainly memorable in true Acne Studios fashion.
