The Biggest Color Trends of NYFW S/S 2024

Fashion week is in full swing in the Big Apple with brands from Ralph Lauren to Staud presenting their Spring/Summer 2023/2024 collection through the weekend. Every brand has its statement, but when it comes to color, it seems like bright minds think alike, with repeated hues of statement colors found on the runways of various designers throughout the series of shoes. These are the three biggest color trends of NYFW.

Chartreuse

Bold and symbolic of spring, Chartreuse has made a bright splash on the runways of multiple designers this fashion week. The color is not one we see season after season, so for it to make it on the runways of many major American designers not even halfway into fashion week is a major deal. This yellowish-green shade has a retro feel to it and can be found in shades both vivid and dull. Designers weren't afraid to utilize this daring shade in these latest Spring/Summer 2024 collections.

Kim Shui

NYC women’s wear brand Kim Shui’s show took place Saturday evening, September 9th. The brand, known for its unconventional designs did not shy away from the boldest and brightest shades for their S/S 2024 collection. Candied apple reds, rich magentas, and of course, a blinding chartreuse were some of them. This bright shade of green appeared in five runway looks of the show. One look featured a rich chocolate paneled bandeau top and an oversized “K” waist belt. A sheer skirt of chartreuse tulle flowed from beneath the top, trimmed with a shimmering satin strip of opaque chartreuse fabric. The look was styled with brown ribbon lace heels and statement multicolor stacked earrings spelling out “Kim Shui”.

LaPointe

Such a daring shade of green isn't new to the brand like LaPoint who used the shade variety of monochromatic looks during their Fall/Winter show back in 2020. The statement color is back for the iconic brand, now in a slightly cooler form but it looks just as monochrome. One look featured a silky halterneck chartreuse top, featuring wispy feathers all across the look. Layered a high-slit maxi skirt featuring jumbo chartreuse sequins. This look was styled with silver chrome thigh-high boots and chunky silver hoops.

Collina Strada

There's never a dull moment when it comes to Collina Strada. The brand debuted its Spring/Summer 2024 collection in September with a whimsical runway show that featured supermodels giving their biggest smiles, something somewhat unsettling for the runway. The brand's collection featured gorgeous summery prints, and of course, Chartreuse. In one look in particular. An elegant satin princess-like top featuring shoulder pads and a corset-like cut was featured in a cool shade of chartreuse. The top was paired with peach knee-length satin trousers featuring a floral print along the side, and a coordinating strappy sandal. This shade of chartreuse also found itself in multiple patterns throughout the collection.

The spread of the color did not stop there, chartreuse was also seen in collections by Sandy Liang, Nardos, Tanya Taylor, and Cinq A Sept.

Gold

Silver chrome has been an unforgettable part of 2023 fashion, seen everywhere from formal wear to sneakers and accessories. But, could Spring 2024 be gold’s time to shine? White a few S/S 2024 collections featured golden pieces and elements.

Ralph Lauren

In their first NYFW fashion show following the pandemic, Ralph Lauren went all out with a stunning show at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on Friday evening. The rustic scene paved the way for an accessory-heavy show, rich in color and patterns. One color, in particular, a stunningly gilded gold, made its way into many of the runways as an accessory or as actual apparel. Sixteen of the collection features a golden apparel piece. One look in particular featured Ralph Lauren's iconic polo, now gilded, with a black logo, tucked into a floor-length glittering black tulle skirt. The look was accented with a thick black belt featuring “RL” in gold. Gold bangles rested on the model's wrist. This look tied together the sophistication of Ralph Laurens's staple pop shirt, typically seen in their menswear selection, with the black tie elegance of their women's wear in a seamless and sparkling look. Other looks by the brand included gilded blazers, trousers, and drapey gold gowns.

Christian Siriano

With #balletcore at the height of fashion, anticipation for what Christian Siriano would put out for this spring is higher than ever, given that the brand is so deeply rooted in ballet inspiration. A beautiful shimmering textile was the statement of eight looks in the collection. This golden material, duller than a typical gold seemed to shimmer in the light as it descended down the runway. In one look it's seen made into a dramatically oversized strapless corset top, accented with black ribbon lacing down the middle. Coordinating gold knee-length trousers are paired with the look, styled with black patent loafers. Rather than chrome, this take on gold is more subtle, fitting the elegance of Christian Siriano seamlessly.

Prabal Guring

In a rainy runway show on Roosevelt Island, Prabal Gurung debuted their Spring/Summer 2024. The brand, known for their social consciousness debuted a collection featuring gold pieces I would define as a fair medium between Ralph Lauren's trophy gold, and Christian Siriano’s muted shimmer. A strapple gold crepe dress descended the runway. The fold-over top as well as the crimp nature of the textile gave the dress a unique dimension and reflected the light beautifully. The asymmetrical hem was met with gorgeous gold pointed flats. The look was styled with a singular gorgeous three-tiered gold circle earring. This elegant look, along with others, featured golden elements of their own.

Other honorable mentions to feature gold in their collections or on the runway include A. Potts, which went full gilded chrome with three stunning pieces in a textile that resembled gold foil.

Dandelion Yellow

Sticking to a theme of bright and unmissable colors, a bright shade of dandelion yellow is featured in the collections of many of NYFW’s S/S 2024 collections. This shade of yellow aligns with all things bright, happy, and new, making it the perfect hue for a spring collection.

Alice + Olivia

Eye-catching brand Alice and Olivia debuted a collection full of bold statement pieces, and they weren't afraid to pop out with stunning primary colors like a bright fire truck red, rich denim blue, and of course, an ultra bright yellow. One retro look by the brand featured a yellow fitted crop tank rimmed in white, paired with fitted yellow pants, white pumps, and a yellow ribbon choker. Accessories featured chunky acrylic rings and bangles. This mod-inspired look was a bright pop to the brand’s spring collection and one of three to feature this bright yellow.

Kate Spade

Kate Spade New York has popped out with some bright yellow of their own this season. Their shade, more on the highlighter side, is a bright pop to otherwise neutral black and white looks, or pairs with a similarly bright kelly green. One look in particular features a bright yellow oversized trench coat, paired with a bright yellow sequin dress underneath. The look is accessories with a large yellow flower choker and a monochromatic boxy handbag.

Known for their gorgeous ethically dyed prints, many of these designs featured a bright dandelion yellow.
