The Most Stylish Event of the Season
Last night Hollywood’s biggest stars came together at the white carpet outside the Renzo Piano-designed Academy Museum in Los Angeles to celebrate the anniversary of The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the largest museum devoted to the arts, sciences and artists of moviemaking.
The new gala already cemented itself as fall’s biggest ball as it quickly became one of the season's most fashionable nights.
The Gala, presented by Rolex, honored four artists that have shaped the filmmaking industry including Miky Lee, Oscar-winner actress Tilda Swinton, director Steve McQueen and recipient of the Icon Award, Julia Roberts. A celebration that included a cocktail reception where Oscar contenders caught up as they made their way to the museum's upstairs atrium. A sneak peek at what will come this upcoming ceremony season with the gathering of the crew and cast members from the movies Everything Everywhere all at Once, Bones and All, The Banshees of Inisherin, The Good Nurse, The Woman King and Devotion.
The massive A-List gathering and fashion spectacle presented, in my opinion, what the Met Gala has been missing these past few years; taste and style. A nice balanced, elegant and stylish affair where fashion wasn’t ironic or a saturation of over-the-top nonsense.
The museum’s minimalistic backdrop and white carpet welcomed Hollywood’s most stylish elite serving black-tie perfection. Monotone, minimalistic and body hugging was a strong theme with supermodel Kaia Gerber in a high-necked, figure-hugging Alaia gown, Hailey Bieber in a midriff- cut-out YSL number, Euphoria superstar Alexa Demie also kept things tight in a black Balenciaga couture gown followed by Eliza Gonzalez who was the definition of movie star in a LaQuan Smith orange, sequined strapless gown.
The minimalist youth was followed by the maximalists. Jodie Turner-Smith touched down in a bright green and feather sleeved Gucci gown, Lily Collins in a ballooing flower-printed wrap-skirt by Dior, Jessica Chastain was a vision in Oscar de la Renta as her off the shoulder cape moved gracefully with the wind. Don’t Worry Darling director, Olivia Wilde, made heads turn in her semi sheer Alexandre Vauthier long-sleeved gown followed by Kerry Washington in a plunging, body-hugging Prabal Gurung number and Keke Palmer in Act N 1 mixing simplicity and tule.
A special mention to one of the nights most stunning and arguably the best look coming from Taylor Russell. Dining a black architectural leather dress from Alexander McQueen ss23 runway. Featuring a plunging opened backside and a cut-out detail that stopped just at the bottom of her back. Drama and couture was added to the halter top as it also seconded as a pocket! Russel added leather gloves and her short loose hair do cemented this as one of her most iconic moments.
Overall every white-carpet attendee brought their best fashion game giving us one of the most stylish nights ever, with the exception of the Louis Vuitton clique who desperately need to be freed from the horrendous styling.
