The One Where Harry Dressed Harry
Have you ever wondered how Harry Styles went from dressing like a preppy boy in One Direction, to his head-to-toe in Saint Laurent Mick Jagger era to wearing a dress on the cover of Vogue? Enter Harry Lambert.
The man responsible for all of Harry’s subversive, flamboyant androgynous style is British stylist Harry Lambert. Harry met Harry in 2014, back when Styles wore exclusively black skin-tight pants and boots, it was later during Styles solo career that Lambert introduced him to a more playful wardrobe.
Since then Styles has become the ultimate face of gender-neutral fashion, becoming one of the most influential fashion icons of this generation. (It is important to mention that Styles isn’t the first singer to challenge gender norms, Bowie, Prince, Billy Porter are some of the men that have paved the way.)
“There’s clothes for men and there’s clothes for women,’ once you remove any barriers, obviously you open up the arena in which you can play,” -Harry Styles
Lambert, unlike other stylists, only works with four clients including Emma Corrin, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Josh O’Connor and of course Mr. Styles.
A stylist that is in it for the pure joy and passion for fashion and creation. Surprisingly gender does not come as a strategic part in creating Styles' looks, rather it comes as a result of the byproduct. Even though the intentions aren’t specific to create change Lambert is aware of the impact Styles’ looks have had.
Vibes and attitudes towards how men dress are always shifting and being challenged. Right now Lambert says that he believes the next big shift will be the Loewe aesthetic. We here femenine meets fun with pearl necklaces on top. It goes to show the power fashion has on culture, how one person who holds the power to reach millions can shft the conversation on how society views individual and sexual expression.
Lambert is responsible for some of Styles’ most iconic looks including the purple see-through frill top he wore on the Falling music video, to the Commes de Garçons blue dress, green boa to his now iconic tour outfits.
Lambert along Styles and the likes of fashion house Gucci have resurrected the 70’s and made them Styles’ signature look. We are talking about flared pants, colors, symmetric-phsycodelic prints all tap into the 70’s vibe.
