The Ultimate Summer Skincare Guide

With summertime coming up we are all wanting our skin to look clear, glowing, and absolutely amazing overall.

But, it can take a bit of work. You might need the help from a few products to make sure that your skin is at its best. Different seasons require different products and for summertime, you will need lighter products that will help with hydration, sun protection, and getting rid of any kind of impurities that might cling to your skin.

I created a list of what kind of products you will need in your skincare routine and a few links at different price points just in case you are needing to make a purchase.

        SPF

Sunscreen is so important all year round but especially in the summer. Even when it is not hot out and the sun isn’t shining, you still need to be applying SPF to protect your skin from all kinds of lights like computer screens and harsh inside overhead lighting. Your skin needs protection to stay healthy, and to do this you need to protect it from dangerous rays.

SPF is needed to prevent sunburn from the hot sun if you’re tanning or outside for long periods of time. This Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen will protect your skin from the sun while also giving you an amazing glow that makes you look heavenly. The Supergoop one can get a little pricey for some people, but E.L.F. recently came out with a dupe for only $14.

       Moisturizer

Moisturizing your face is a crucial step in your skincare routine 365 days out of the year. Your skin will not survive if you are not consistently moisturizing your skin.

Although moisturizing is even more crucial in the winter because the air is so dry, that doesn’t mean that you can skip out on it in the summer. Many people recommend finding a lighter-weight moisturizer for the summer since a heavier one can get a little uncomfortable in the heat. With all of the heat from the sun, your skin will be more susceptible to being dehydrated and a moisturizer will lock in moisture to keep it hydrated. Additionally, a good and gentle moisturizer will help prevent wrinkles and aging in the skin to keep you looking as young as possible.

The Tatcha Water Cream moisturizer is an absolute dream for keeping your face hydrated and protected. Now the price can be a little scary so this lower-cost CeraVe moisturizer gives a great barrier for the skin, plus it already has SPF in it.

       Cleansing

Washing your face might be the most important step in your skincare routine no matter what time of year it is.

Dermatologists recommend cleansing your face morning and night which will remove any kind of impurities and help with breakouts that might happen. With the summer heat, there is a greater chance of your pores opening up and getting any kind of contaminant to get caught inside. We all sweat a little more in the summer in the sun, especially if you’re tanning outside, and when all that sweat builds up it needs to be washed away to not clog your pores.

Using a good face wash, that also fits your skin type and needs, will also help prevent acne and help to get rid of it. The La Roche-Posay Hydrating Gentle Cleanser is great for combination or dry skin and will not agitate sensitive skin. Youth to the People’s Superfood Cleanser will gently cleanse your skin, supporting your skin’s pH balance and leaving your skin feeling clean and hydrated.

        Exfoliating

Exfoliating in the summer is extremely important so that you can remove the dead skin and impurities that your skin collects throughout the days. This will also help with rebuilding your skin to even out texture and redness or uneven skin tone.

When you exfoliate and remove all the impurities and dead skin, your other skincare products will be able to absorb deeper which will allow them to work better. However, you should not exfoliate too often because that can irritate your skin and end up hurting its barrier. So, make sure to only exfoliate around twice a week.

The Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant will exfoliate and clear away dead skin and help smooth your skin to give it a brighter and cleaner appearance. For a cheaper option The Ordinary Glycolic Acid Toner will clear your skin and can not only be used on the face, many people have used it to help lighten their underarms and clear their backne.

        Vitamin C

This one is a little more specific for the summertime. This antioxidant will help neutralize the potential damages your skin may suffer from the environment.

Whether you suffer from hyperpigmentation or want to take care of your wrinkles a vitamin C product will aid you in making your skin feel and look better than ever. This will also boost collagen, a protein that helps repair and renew your skin, keeping your skin looking healthy and glowing. Also, these vitamin C serums, spot treatments, and other products allow for wound healing which is great for scars whether it is acne scars or something else.

The Nue Topical Vitamin C Powder is mixed with water and applied to the face for a visible difference in brightening, pigmentation, and smoothing. For a drugstore version, the CeraVe Renewing Vitamin C Serum is great for improving skin texture and adding antioxidant protection, and it won’t clog your pores.
