Zendaya’s Challengers Looks are Court Side Approved

The reigning queen of method dressing is back! Fashion's unmatched duo once again bestowed upon the fashion world a stylistic master class on channeling the real allure of a 20th century movie star. Zendaya, Vogue’s latest May cover star, alongside her stylist, Law Roach, made the world their tennis court. Stylists and editors' favorite time of the year is upon us, when Zendaya and Law embark on a new press tour, pushing boundaries and setting style trends with each appearance. This time all the looks, like always, were a clear point, match and set winners. 

Over the years, the actress and styling god have tapped into her various characters in the most fashionable ways. With fashion houses crafting custom looks to commemorate her most memorable characters, blending vintage and custom pieces. For her latest project, Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Challengers’, where Z plays Tashi Dunca, a tennis prodigy whose world collapses after an injury, but the athleisure never failed to miss. 

Zendaya's arrival to photo call events was nothing short of surreal. No,really, surreal. Case in point: those Loewe tennis-ball adorned stilettos. When fashion meets film: a love story for the ages and in 2024 the looks are almost as big as the movie itself, or perhaps even bigger? With a powerful luxury fashion house like Loewe taking over the wardrobe department, the plot line is only going to be greater. 

This well-publicized approach to method dressing isn’t exclusive to Zendaya; Margot Robbie’s Barbie inspired looks are a red-carpet extravaganza from last year. This time around, the sportier look is in session. 

Spring’s latest trend forecast made a huge hit, better yet a set point, when Fashion Week runways were flooded with pleated skirts reminiscent of the preppy-tennis-crazed aesthetic. From custom Loewe pieces to Carolina Herrera couture looks that paid homage to the real life tennis supernovas, the Williams sisters. Legendary designers for a legendary star.

Zendaya posed in a Carolina Herrera black and white striped gown as Annie Leibovitz referenced a 1998 Vogue photoshop of Venus and Serena Williams. On her stop in Monte Carlo, Zendaya paid homage to iconic tennis star Althea Gibson with a custom ON look. 

Anything vintage Vivianne Westwood will take your breath away, and a miniskirt with stripes from the SS94 collection and matching vest and Bulgari jewelry will definitely have that effect. 

Thom Browne knows method dressing and his tennis racket sequined maxi dress proved it. A halter neck, polo inspired pleats paired with a ski-high ponytail is sure what tennis dreams are made of.
