Alexander Wang meets bodywear

In the last week of July, Alexander Wang dropped a new collection of bodywear on their site. In truth, Alexander Wang's fashion ads for the new collection on Instagram included a humongous version of the collection's bralette hanging over a bridge flowing in the wind. Beyond that, the campaign features models doing pretty much whatever. Cutting a watermelon with a chainsaw, squishing a basketball, you name it in set designs by Tom Schneider.

The Athletic Mesh Collection features a variety of styles, all made up of an unlined athletic mesh. Styles offered include cropped tees, triangle bras, bikini briefs, and bandeau bras. Fluorescent shades like aquamarine, lime, and pink in combination with the meshy material make for a collection reminiscent of 80s disco.

This new drop adds to the brand’s growing collection of both mens and women’s body wear. Alexander Wang expanded into bodywear back in 2022, a daring step for the luxury fashion brand. Bodywear is a big shift for the brand which now offers bodywear in a variety of styles in thermals, cotton, jersey knit, and now mesh. Similar brands, like Calvin Klien, which began with dresses and coats have expanded beyond the reach of outerwear to what people wear underneath. Calvin Klien is now notoriously known for their underwear with their iconic My Calvins ad campaigns.

Comfort is coming more and more important to fashion as the years go by, and a bodywear collection that is both unique and stylish as well as comforting is just what a brand like Alexander Wang, with its cool and casual New York style needs.
