Celebrating Over 110 Years of Luxury Fashion House, Zegna
Zegna, a luxury Italian menswear fashion house, was founded in 1910 by Ermenegildo Zegna when he was only 18. He started with a vision to create the most high-quality and luxurious fabrics in his wool mill. His wool mill was eventually passed down to his sons and in 1972, the brand expanded to the ready-to-wear luxury menswear market. The first store opened in 1980 in Milan, Italy where they sold made-to-measure clothing. Today, Zegna is worth over $3.2 billion dollars and is a well respected luxury brand with a loyal customer base.
Much of Zegna’s success was from the brand catering to the customer’s needs and providing high-quality fabrics in their garments. They always kept their brand values while also reaching out to new customers with different styles. Their three sub brands include; Ermenegildo Zegna Group, Z Zegna, and the XXX Collection.
In 2014, the brand created a 20 minute short film called A Rose Reborn, directed by Park Chan-wook that highlighted the sophistication and sharp style of the brand.
In 2019, the brand created #UseTheExisting to promote efforts in upcycling and decreasing waste in the fashion industry. “We can reuse and reinvent the existing, getting progressive fabrics out of the discarded ones, translating traditional techniques into innovative processes. This is Zegna;s answer to responsibility, making the dream of zero waste possible,” said Alessandro Sartori, Zegna’s Artistic Director. Their efforts of #UseTheExisting was awarded the ADI Design Index Innovation Award in 2020.
Today, Zegna is rebranding itself to developing a more contemporary and evolutionary style. In the beginning of the year, they kicked off their 2022-2023 Winter/Fall fashion show at Milan Fashion Week with what they are best known for- impeccable tailoring and ethically responsible sustainability. Their presentation showed that Zegna will continue to empower the fashion industry through their creative vision and brand values.
