Gucci Really Said Twinning is Winning
Alessandro Michele brought 68 sets of identical twins to its ss23 runway! Just marine the arduous process of finding and selecting 68 pairs of identical twins, wow. Michele’s latest collection explored the relationship between twins and their duplicity, an admiration stemming from the relationship his mother and sister had.
“I am the son of two mothers, sharing an intimacy that was inaccessible to others” -Michele
Every headline got it right, Gucci’s Twinsburg SS23 collection really did get everyone seeing double. Guests were surprised as the grande finale revealed that every model had a twin walking opposite them on the runway as the middle wall was lifted!
As twins walked opposite of each other on the runway, Gucci’s classical, elegant and heavily 70’s-inspired designs and silhouettes came in the from of slim-cut blazers, garters that doubled as trousers, twill cardigans, slouchy leather bottoms, sequined blazers and leopard printed tights.
The accessories of the collection quite literally represented the collection’s theme with furry little Gremlins hanging off of handbags. (Gremlins, as in the little monsters that multiply from the 80’s dark comedy movie) Michele also showed tribal inspired jewelry adorning models' faces.
Although this wasn't Michele’s first time diving into the whole twin universe. Back in 2018 Michele showed up with none other than Jared Leto as his de facto body double wearing coordinated hairstyles and suits.
Custom tailored looks and months of scouting brought Michele's SS23 collection to life. A collection inspired by his family and named after Ohio’s suburb, Twinsbur, where each year more than 2,000 pairs of twins gather. A three day celebration with a full-time detailed schedule where twins can either ride games or participate in a Corn Hole tournament, whatever that is.
