Prada and Their Newfound Modesty

With Prada’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection came a lot of modesty, something new that Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons are doing as a tribute to last year’s Prada show. Last year at the Prada show, the news that Russia had invaded Ukraine came, people were devastated and some wondered if the show should continue. This year the invitations sent out were also a tribute alongside the collection itself, with a lily pin on the invite.

Many skirts were seen in line with a wide range of silhouettes. Some of them were plain mini skirts and others were longer with floral detailing on them, but all of them had some form of modesty.

Then come the suits, which were all over the runway during the Prada show. Unisex suits were a major factor in this line, taking the form of plain simple business suits. Quite a few of the suit jackets seemed to have shoulder pads puffing out the sleeves, which could be a sign that the 80s and 90s trends are coming back, specifically with business attire.

The modest theme comes from embracing the simple things in life and not taking them for granted. Finding beauty in simplicity is what it is all about, not going overboard with extravagant luxuries, but finding the peace and light in the storm.

The catwalk was simple, with a black runway and orange pillars placed around the rest of the space. While the orange is a little random, the bright color makes the other garments pop from the contrast.

Throughout the show, there were sprinkles of complexity and decoration with different patterns on long ankle-length dresses. The patterns that were scarcely put in between the other looks are very refreshing to the eye because while the other looks were great, the designs give the collection a little more character and style.
