To prepare for the Met Gala this year, here are some of the best looks from past Galas.
Blake Lively’s 2018 Met Gala look is one that no one can forget. The 2018 theme for the Gala was “Heavenly Bodies”. This Versace gown was filled with small embroidered and bejeweled details all the way to the end of her long train. Between the gown and her headpiece, which altogether took over 600 hours, she looked exceedingly elegant and was the center of attention for quite a while after this.
One look that will go down in history as one of the best Met looks overall, is Bianca Jagger’s 1981 dress. Her Dior dress was absolutely stunning and looking back on her pictures, she has a beautiful vintage look that was so perfectly put together.
Cher’s look at the 1974 Met Gala is one that embodies beauty and excitement. Her shining nude unitard was lined in feathers and paired with a gorgeous purple smokey eye. She was wearing Bob Mackie, who has said that Cher was his muse for many of his designs. He was also the one behind many of her famous looks.
Naomi Campbell has always been a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry. She walked with Gianni Versace himself to the 1995 Met Gala wearing a Versace gown. The sparkling silver dress was absolutely stunning on her and it was one that will not be forgotten.
Olivia Rodrigo arrived at the 2022 Met Gala with a fairy-like inspired Versace gown. She paired the floor-length shining purple dress with purple platform heels, butterfly clips in her hair, and sheer arm-length gloves. This look was just beautiful and for her first Met Gala, she made quite an impression on everyone.
This look from Stella McCartney and Liv Tyler at the 1999 Met Gala is one of the most iconic looks in Met history. The theme for this Gala was “Rock Style” and there is no one more perfect than Stella McCartney for this theme. These were DIY Hanes t-shirts that were made very close to the start of the Met Gala. Who knew this would cast them into stardom and make them overnight icons?
Zendaya has always been one to look to for fashion inspiration and this time she really went all out. The inspiration for her look was Joan of Arc and her Versace ensemble resembled a knight in shining armor to bring the idea to life.
Josephine Baker was the inspiration behind Yara Shahidi’s 2021 Met Gala ensemble and there are so many things to could say about this look not only because of the look but the inspiration of Baker behind it. The Dior team and Shahidi wanted to incorporate elements of Baker’s real wardrobe into the gown that Shahidi wore that night. The gorgeous gown was paired with a headpiece, belt, gloves, and a Cartier necklace.
