The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Is Making a Comeback, But Will There Be Improvement?

The music, lights, lingerie, smiles, and who could forget the wings? These are all critical ingredients to the iconic Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, which has been on a break. This show has been going on for so many years until 2019 when they stopped it due to decreasing sales and the ongoing negative comments they were receiving about their approach to beauty standards.

There are many ways that this new show could be critiqued, either great reviews, or a lot of hate comments. It is no secret that Victoria’s Secret has hired models who fit a certain standard of beauty, which is very exclusive to other plus-size, queer, and trans models. With the brand increasing the number of plus-sized models in their recent campaigns, it will be interesting to see what they do with this new show. 

Many great names have walked down that runway with the famous wings on their backs. Models like Heidi Klum, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, Kendall Jenner, and the Hadid sisters have not only walked the runway but given the brand some of the most iconic moments in the show’s history.

The show will come later this year, and along with the many general users, some celebrities have voiced their opinion on it. Lizzo has always been one for inclusivity, so when she heard about the return, she went to Twitter and said “This is a win for inclusivity for inclusivity’s sake. But if brands start doing this only because they’ve received backlash, then what happens when the ‘trends’ change again? Do the CEOs of these companies value true inclusivity? Or do they just value money?” She brings up a lot of really good points, are they only doing this to prove they are inclusive? Or are they truly making a change with their leadership and the message that they are sending to so many people?”

Not much information has been given about the show to come later this year, and we can only guess about so much. I and many others are waiting for more details to be given and for the show date to be released. It is definitely going to be one to watch.
