Trending Now: Windbreakers

Who would have thought that the extremely practical, utilitarian windbreaker could ever be trendy. But the versatile jackets are having their moment in fashion. Celebrities like Rihanna and Venus Williams are making it work with their high fashion styled windbreakers. Styling windbreakers does not just have to be a casual look anymore. Dress it down or dress it up and create a polished, sleek look. The possibilities are truly endless.

Kim Kardashian, the new face of Balenciaga’s current campaign, knows how to dress up a windbreaker. Last October she was spotted sporting a neon pink jacket paired with silver dripping earrings, a silver handbag, and matching silver heeled boots. The star of the outfit, the jacket, was the anorak coat from Balenciaga. Overall, the metallic details combined with the bright pink made this a stunning on-the-go outfit while hitting the streets of New York.

Another big name elevating windbreakers in their outfit is Venus Williams. While attending a Louis Vuitton show, she donned a trendy windbreaker. The tennis star styled a navy dress with button accent details and black cowboy boots with a sporty elegant Louis Vuitton monogrammed windbreaker jacket. This outfit combined many different stylistic elements that you wouldn’t think to put together, yet it pulled together to create a chic look, fit for the front row of a fashion show.

Rihanna, of course, can make anything look good, proving that functional and fashionable do not have to be mutually exclusive. Before announcing her pregnancy, the singer walked out in a vivid blue windbreaker. Her outfit was complete with a blue mini skirt with a furry green trim, a pair of white lace up stilettos, and a black and white striped fur statement stole. Like Venus Williams, Rihanna took a windbreaker with a sporty vibe and elevated the look with swanky details.

Windbreakers are no longer the revival of a less than flattering 80s trend. The functionality of a windbreaker combined with the garment’s incredible ability to be styled in many different ways makes the windbreaker the must have outerwear during transitional seasons. It is guaranteed that as the seasons change, windbreakers are going to be seen on everyone from celebrities at fashion shows to people on the street heading to work. Windbreakers are definitely back and better than ever before.
